WWE Rumors: John Cena vs. Randy Orton Happening at ‘Wrestlemania 33’

After several weeks of intense speculation, John Cena defeated AJ Styles to become the WWE Champion for the sixteenth time and Randy Orton won the 2017 Royal Rumble match, but does that mean WWE officials are planning for John Cena to face Randy Orton on the grandest stage of them all at Wrestlemania 33?

There will be a lot of speculation heading into the WWE Elimination Chamber PPV because John Cena will defend the WWE title in less than two weeks inside the structure. As much speculation as there was heading into the WWE Royal Rumble PPV, Cena’s WWE title win and Randy Orton’s

Royal Rumble win have many people unhappy because they wanted to see something new from WWE this year in Orlando by April 2nd.

John Cena hasn’t been in the main event of Wrestlemania since 2013 and has not held a WWE World title since 2014. Randy Orton has not held a WWE World title since 2013 and last won a Royal Rumble match in 2009. Both men have been featured in main events, but neither has been pushed this strongly in a few years during Wrestlemania season. The question is if WWE is planning Cena vs. Orton because it’s the safe bet.

The 2017 ‘Royal Rumble’ match was one of the most hyped up in WWE history. It’s still fresh, but the WWE Universe doesn’t seem too happy with how the match happened. After so much speculation, the fans were expecting more surprise returns, bigger moments, and more action from the big stars like The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, and Goldberg. It doesn’t seem that people have a problem with Orton winning necessarily.

Instead, the finger is being pointed again at Roman Reigns and WWE playing it safe by having Randy Orton win the ‘Royal Rumble’ match rather than someone like Bray Wyatt or someone new. It was reported a few days before the WWE Royal Rumble that The Viper would likely win the match, but the expectation is it will lead to Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania 33, but WWE wasn’t going to get there in one night.

The assumption is Bray Wyatt will be winning the WWE Championship inside the Elimination Chamber in two weeks, which will most likely make the WWE Universe forgive a lot of the booking for the WWE Royal Rumble. However, that won’t happen for another two weeks, which leaves some time for WWE officials to potentially change their minds about Wyatt’s push and Cena vs. Orton may be the backup plan for Orlando.

John Cena’s opponent for Wrestlemania has been a frequent topic of discussion since the news broke that WWE officials had canceled the creative plan for Cena vs. The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 33. It has been reported since that WWE has chosen John Cena’s opponent for the event, but it hasn’t been revealed yet.

Now that John Cena has won back the WWE Championship, everyone is curious what WWE officials have planned for him on the grandest stage of them all. A rivalry with Samoa Joe has been talked about for a few weeks now, but many people were expecting Joe to debut during the ‘Royal Rumble,’ which did not happen.

The logic behind John Cena winning his historic sixteenth WWE Championship from AJ Styles at the WWE Royal Rumble makes sense if WWE’s plans will involve keeping Cena out of the WWE title match because the powers that be would have saved that moment for Wrestlemania. The WWE Royal Rumble made a few things clearer, but the WWE Elimination Chamber PPV will make the Wrestlemania 33 card crystal clear.
