Rod Stewart Weeps After His Beloved Celtic Defeat Barcelona [Video]

Rod Stewart yesterday watched his beloved football club Celtic overcome the mighty Spanish giants of Barcelona in an enthralling contest. Stewart was so moved by the occasion that he openly wept at the sound of the final whistle.

He was caught on camera as a friend looked to console the rocker but Stewart continued to dab his eyes with a handy handkerchief.

Rod is probably Celtic’s most infamous supporter and a devout follower of the beautiful game. Throughout his career he has name-checked the Bhoys, citing the club in his song “You’re In My Heart,” and he’s repeatedly kicked footballs into the crowd at his concerts. Stewart even had a full-sized pitch installed into his garden in his mansion, which the club then trained at before a friendly in 2005.

Barcelona are believed to be the best soccer team in the world. Despite being knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage last season and losing their Spanish league title to Real Madrid, their free-flowing brand of beautifully patient football has drawn plaudits across the world.

The likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, and Lionel Messi are in their squad, and the Catalan side were expected to dispatch Celtic with relative ease during their two encounters over the last few weeks.

On October 23, Barcelona narrowly defeated the Scottish side thanks to a last minute winner from their left-back Jordi Alba, but Celtic were able to get revenge by defeating them with the same scoreline on Wednesday evening, much to the joy of the Celtic Park faithful, many of whom joined Rod in shedding a tear or two.
