‘Moana’: Check Out Some Fun Easter Eggs And Hidden Characters In Disney’s Newest Animated Film

Disney has yet another animated feature film hit on their hands with Moana, and that is evident by the first two days of its release. As usual with just about every single movie made these days, though, there is much more to see than the movie itself. The filmmakers and animators have done a tremendous job on the film with the story, the characters, and the landscapes, but make sure to look for Easter Eggs, inside jokes, and hidden Disney characters.

Box Office Mojo is reporting that Moana actually had a higher opening day than the highly-successful Frozen did with $25.58 million on Wednesday. It dropped off a bit on Thursday with $9.9 million brought in on Thanksgiving Day, but it is still expected to have a five-day total around $85 million.

Please let it be known that there are some spoilers ahead for Disney’s Moana, so if you haven’t seen it yet, stop reading now.

In order to bring in even more ticket sales, Disney does what many other companies do and they have hidden things in Moana. Yes, there are slight tributes to people, history, and Disney characters from other movies so fans will go back to see it again.

If you go and watch the movie, you’ll catch some of the Easter Eggs, but blink and you’ll miss them.

Sven from Disney’s Frozen

At one point, Maui (Dwayne Johnson) and Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) head into the Realm of Monsters to speak with the gigantic crab known as Tamatoa. Maui finally finds his fish hook and begins quickly transforming into different animals, one of which is the lovable reindeer from Frozen.

Flounder from The Little Mermaid

Ariel’s little yellow friend appears very quickly during Maui’s awesome song titled “You’re Welcome.” During the song, a number of different fish appear from the right-side of the screen and swim across, and one of them is Flounder.

Let it be known that only one of us watching the film actually saw him, but he is definitely in it. Oh My Disney confirmed months ago that Flounder would have a cameo appearance in Moana.

Baymax from Big Hero 6

When Maui and Moana have to do battle with the coconut-clad creatures known as the Kakamora, make sure to keep a close eye out for the lovable Baymax.

Wreck-It Ralph

If you sit through the entire credits, make sure to keep your eyes open on the right-hand side of the screen right as they’re about to finish up. There is a small piece of artwork with the character of Wreck-It Ralph in his traditional flexing pose.

Sebastian from The Little Mermaid

Make sure to stay after the credits roll as there is a short and funny bonus scene. The huge crab named Tamatoa is the focus of the post-credits scene and he is still stuck on his back from his confrontation with Maui and he’s searching for help.

He talks about being stuck on his back and then tells the crowd that he knows they would help him if his “name was Sebastian and he has a cool Jamaican accent.” Obviously, that is a nod to the famous little red crab from The Little Mermaid.

According to Coming Soon, directors Ron Clements and John Musker revealed a couple of the Easter Eggs that are in the film and there are more. They did reveal that Olaf from Frozen, Aladdin’s lamp, and Flash the Sloth from Zootopia are all hidden somewhere in Moana.

Have you been able to find those or any other Disney Easter Eggs?

Yes, much like Finding Dory, every film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and all movies made these days, there is much more to Moana than meets the eye. Hidden characters from Wreck-It Ralph, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen make some cameo appearances, and there are other Disney jokes and things to find. Disney is no dummy, and they know that putting all these Easter Eggs into their movies will bring about return viewers and multiple tickets sold to the same people.
