‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6 DVD/Blu-ray: Deleted Scenes Reveal Tense Aftermath of Jon Snow’s Demise & More

Game of Thrones Season 6 has arrived on DVD and Blu-ray. Among the myriad of special features are the always anticipated deleted scenes. Entertainment Weekly recently posted one of the deleted scenes involving Olenna Tyrell on their website. Winter is Coming has also published an in-depth appraisal of all of the special features on the Game of Thrones Season 6 DVD/Blu-ray box set.

In case you have not seen them, here is a detailed recap of the newly revealed, deleted scenes on the Game of Thrones DVD/Blu-ray home box set.

Scene 1

The first scene is from Season 6, Episode 1 (“The Red Woman”) wherein Castle Black is reeling from the assassination of Jon Snow (Kit Harington). Dolorous Edd (Ben Crompton) and Ser Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) are in the room where they have taken Jon’s body.

They look at him somberly. They discuss Alisser Thorne being behind Jon’s murder. Davos starts rallying reinforcements. His wheels are clearly turning as he asks Edd how familiar he is with Ghost.

They are then interrupted by a sudden knock at the door. Everyone who has a sword draws it. Melisandre (Carice van Houten) announces it is her. She is let inside and is sad about what she sees. She is also confused because she saw Jon in the flames fighting at Winterfell. Davos says that despite her vision, Jon’s death is real (for one more episode).

Edd goes out into the courtyard of Castle Black. He has Ghost with him. They are confronted by Thorne (Owen Teale). Thorne asks where he is going. Edd responds that he is taking Ghost out so he can eat. Thorne says that he can bring food to Ghost.

Edd tries his best to hide his brewing outrage as he musters that Ghost cannot be shut in forever. Thorne argues that Castle Black is no place for the direwolf, and that he needs to be set free so he can be in his natural environment. Edd is clearly not dissuaded from his original goal.

Thorne then says the brothers of the Night’s Watch will be convening in the mess hall for a meeting, later on. Edd acknowledges Thorne’s announcement as he and Ghost head out.

Important Notes: The scene between Edd and Thorne is completely new footage. Ghost is in pre-production shape. That is why the CGI used to render him is incomplete.

If you have not seen the original scene recently, it is hard to determine if there is any new footage in the first two sequences. Of note is that Melisandre’s vision does turn out to be true. Eight episodes after his death, Jon fights at Winterfell during the “Battle of the Bastards.”

The Edd/Thorne scene does give Game of Thrones fans a better sense of the tension that settled over Castle Black following Jon’s demise.

Scene 2

As previously reported on Inquisitr, Lady Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg) gives her son, Lord Mace Tyrell (Roger Ashton-Griffiths), a tongue-lashing as they take a carriage ride through King’s Landing. They discuss Margaery (Natalie Dormer), and Loras’ (Finn Jones) imprisonment and their plan to free them.

Olenna expresses her determination to save her grandchildren and is critical of the progress Mace has made in the effort. Mace defends himself and speaks about how much he loves his children.

Olenna assures him they will free Margaery, and Loras and all of them will leave King’s Landing together. She anticipates that in their absence, the Sparrows and Cersei will destroy each other.

Important Note: She cannot know it at the time, but her grandchildren and son are actually doomed to be caught in the crossfire between them. In Game of Thrones’ Season 6 finale (“The Winds of Winter”); Margaery, Loras, and Mace, are all killed in the blast Cersei orchestrates to destroy the Sept and all of her enemies.

Scene 3

Arya (Maisie Williams) witnesses the theater troop making a mockery of Robert Baratheon and the Lannisters. She is amused until they begin skewering her father. She listens in as onlookers react in shock at what they see.

Important Notes: As is the case with the first deleted scene, it is incredibly hard to determine where the new footage is without looking back at the original scene. The spectators’ reaction is the only aspect that seems different, and it appears to be extended.
