‘Alaskan Bush People’ Renewed: Season 6 Renewed, But There’s A Catch

After much speculation, the popular show Alaskan Bush People has been renewed. However, Discovery Networks — the parent company that airs Alaskan Bush People — has put a stipulation on the Brown family if they want to see their show continue to air, and it’s one that’s sure to disappoint fans of the show!

According to the Aussie News Network, Discovery has made clear that Alaskan Bush People will only be renewed if Billy Bryan Brown is taken off the show. Billy Bryan, the head of the Brown household and the creator of the Alaskan Bush People show, has become too much of a problem for Discovery Networks for a variety of reasons.

First, Billy Brown’s own history proves that his claims of being raised in the so-called “Alaskan bush” are fraudulent. In reality, he comes from an affluent family, and was a successful author before he starred in the show. One of his books — titled One Wave at a Time, which was released in 2007 — was actually the inspiration for the show.

Second, during Season 5 of the show, Billy Brown was found guilty of forgery and sentenced to 30 days in jail.

These two factors, combined, forced Discovery Networks to tell the Brown family that they will only continue to air the show if Billy Bryan Brown is no longer a part of it.

Meanwhile, Counsel and Heal is reporting that the news about Alaskan Bush People being renewed has already caused some Discovery Networks executives to have second thoughts. Even though the networks are currently airing “one off” specials called Bushcraft Chronicles, Billy Brown’s forced departure is the second cast departure that the show has had to endure, forcing Discovery executives to question the wisdom behind the show’s renewal in the first place.

Like any network, Discovery’s primary concern is ratings. And even though, in the past, Alaskan Bush People has been good for ratings, Season 6 was the show’s worst season, regarding ratings, thanks in no small part to all of the controversy surrounding the Brown family.

Also, Matt Brown hasn’t made any formal announcement about when, if ever, he’s going to come back to the show. Fans will recall that Matt left the show in Season 4 to enter a rehab program, and he made no appearances in Season 5. Does that mean that he won’t be included in Season 6, either?

The one bright spot for fans of the show, of course, is that Parent Herald has confirmed that Alaskan Bush People is renewed, and the Brown family is filming new episodes of the show.

In fact, on the official Alaskan Bush People Twitter page, fans of the show are encouraged to write to the Brown family to ask questions, and the fans who ask the best questions will get a video answer from the Brown family.

The family has already released teaser clips of the upcoming season, where they’re shown building a house for the winter and “struggling to survive.” It should be interesting to see if the family will, once again, be met with controversy since it’s been proven that they’re not the “wilderness” people that they claim to be, or if the entertainment value of the show is enough to make viewers look past the fakeness.
