Defiant Women Donating To Planned Parenthood In ‘Pro-Lifer’ Mike Pence’s Name, He Gets An Alert Every Time It’s Done
Women are donating to Planned Parenthood in VP-elect Mike Pence’s name in defiance to his anti-abortion stance, CNN is reporting.
The massive movement started when musician Bethany Cosentino revealed on Instagram Saturday that every time a donation was made to Planned Parenthood in the vice-president elect’s name, he would get a notification.
“You can make a donation to Planned Parenthood in Mike Pence’s name and he’ll receive the certificate of donation.”

The evangelical Christian has been campaigning that federal funding to the organization be stopped. He has also imposed tough restrictions on women in his state as governor of Indiana.
President-elect Trump’s running mate is a well-known critic of pro-choice and abortion rights, and during the recent presidential campaigns vowed to consign the U.S. law allowing abortion to the “ash heap of history, where it belongs.” In March, the 57-year-old signed a bill that would have forced women to have funerals for miscarried or aborted fetuses, a federal judge blocked it from being passed.

The president-elect has also suggested that women who have abortions be “punished.” The 70-year-old later backtracked on his statement, saying that abortions could be permitted in cases of incest, rape or if a woman’s health was in jeopardy.
In the wake of Donald Trump’s stunning victory at the polling booths, many women have been making donations to Planned Parenthood and sharing images of the donation form with the VP-elect’s name and office address.

Celebrities like Amber Tamblyn and Amy Schumer have shown their support, donating and voicing their approval to the cause.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America president Cecile Richards confirmed that the health care and abortion provider is overwhelmed with plenty of support, revealing that more than 128,000 people had donated since Saturday. In a statement, Richards said the health care and abortion provider would fight until the very end, adding that the Trump administration got in wrong in assuming they knew what their supporters wanted.
“We are so grateful to this community across the country, and will never stop fighting for them. The truth is that the majority of Americans, including Trump’s own voters, support access to health care at Planned Parenthood and do not want to see women lose access to safe, legal abortion…we will never back down…these doors stay open no matter what.”
Many women are worried that when president-elect Trump revokes part of Obamacare it will restrict the access of contraception and birth control. This is making many women stockpile contraceptives. One woman revealed on Twitter that she had stockpiled enough IUDs for 12 years.

Trump may not have been as outspoken as his running-mate on the issue of abortion, but his mixed messages are a source of a concern. After the “blue collar billionaire” doubled down on his comments that women who committed abortion should be punished, he went on 60 Minutes vowing to appoint pro-life judges to the Supreme Court. This means that Roe vs Wade, the milestone decision that made abortion a constitutional right in America, could be upturned.
Chief medical officer at Planned Parenthood Federation of America Raegan McDonald-Mosley said queries about birth control, health care and the Affordable Care Act had spiked since the elections. According to her, the use of IUDs had gone up by 91 percent in the last five years and women were afraid they could lose that access to birth control.
“While we truly hope that birth control methods will be available, accessible and affordable to all women under the Trump administration, we understand people’s real concerns about losing access to birth control, which is basic healthcare for women.”

Apart from the financial donations being made in Vice-President elect Mike Pence’s name, volunteers are signing up under the #StandWithPP hashtag.
