Selena Gomez Making Huge Comeback At American Music Awards? ‘Relieved’ Justin Bieber Won’t Attend

Could Selena Gomez be making her much-anticipated comeback at the 2016 American Music Awards on November 20?

According to reports, after heading to rehab as she continues to battle Lupus in late August, Gomez could now be gearing up for a comeback at the prestigious music award show later this month, safe in the knowledge that ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber likely won’t be there.

Sources are alleging that Gomez is supposedly considering breaking her hiatus from the spotlight to make an appearance at the award show because she reportedly wants her big comeback to be a celebration for her legions of dedicated fans.

“[Selena] wants her first appearance back in front of her fans to be special,” a source told Hollywood Life of Gomez’s potential plans to make her big comeback at the award show on November 20.

“If she does decide to do the appearance at the AMAs,” continued the insider of Gomez’s potential comeback, “[Selena] will want to do it big with perhaps a dazzling performance or a major announcement.”

The Selena source then went on to suggest that Gomez is seriously considering attending the award show, despite reports claiming that she’s currently in rehab as she continued to battle lupus, but claimed that Selena has allegedly been asking her family and doctors if they believe that dipping her toe back into work and heading to the AMAs would be a healthy move her for.

“[Selena] is flattered that she has been nominated and is consulting with her family and doctors about whether or not getting back in front of a crowd and cameras is a healthy decision,” Hollywood Life added of Gomez’s potential upcoming American Music Awards appearance.

The insider also told the site that Selena reportedly thinks the AMAs could be the perfect platform to make her comeback because she knows that ex-boyfriend Justin is unlikely to attend the show due to prior commitments with his “Purpose World Tour.”

“[Selena Gomez] is relieved that [Justin Bieber] has tour dates on the night of the AMAs,” the site revealed of why Selena is allegedly considering breaking away from rehab and making her return to the spotlight at the November music award show, noting that Gomez would feel more comfortable knowing that Bieber will not be there.

“With Justin unlikely to make an appearance at the show there is less stress surrounding the event for Selena,” continued the source of how Selena’s AMAs comeback plans may be influenced by Bieber. “Even though Selena will always love Justin, it does make things easier for her knowing her ex-boyfriend will likely not be there.”

Justin is scheduled to be in Italy both the day of and the day before the American Music Awards take over the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on November 20, meaning it’s very unlikely that Bieber and Gomez will have an awkward reunion on the AMAs red carpet should Selena make her big musical comeback.

Bieber currently has concerts scheduled in Bologna, Italy, on both November 19 and 20 and will then be heading to Spain for further shows on November 22 and 23, making Justin’s attendance unlikely despite Bieber earning five nominations at the 2016 AMAs ceremony.

Selena and her team have not commented on reports claiming that she could make an appearance at the American Music Awards later this month, though Gomez is up for two awards at the big show and previously made her big return to the AMAs stage with an emotional performance of the Bieber inspired track “The Heart Wants What It Wants” back in 2014.

The American Music Awards also announced last month that Selena had earned nominations in both the Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock category at the 2016 ceremony as well as landing a nod in the prestigious Artist of the Year category, which will see her go up against Justin.

Gomez previously told People that she would be taking a break from music and acting in late August, revealing to the site in a heartfelt statement that her battle with lupus also caused her to suffer with “anxiety, panic attacks, and depression.”

Selena’s break and reported rehab visit also caused the star to cancel the remaining dates on her “Revival World Tour,” which would have seen Gomez on the road and playing shows around the world in the U.S., Europe, and South America until December.
