Pokemon GO Data Miners Discover Generation 2

Pokemon GO data miners have been furiously at work trying to extract as much from the game’s code as possible. With the addition of the recent Halloween event, there has been a renewed interest in the game that Survey Monkey named the most popular mobile game in US history. While some at first dispelled some of the findings as mere rumors, the miners’ findings have been proven to be accurate, and the latest round seems to introduce generation 2 Pokemon into the mix along with a host of other new features.

Probably the most popular aspect of the latest round of information will be in the form of the next 100 Pokemon players can expect to add to their Pokedex. Pokemon GO data miners at Silph Road were not able to tell whether or not players will be given one of the starters (Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile) as they were upon GO’s initial release, but they did confirm there is, in fact, a spot available for each of the 100 Pokemon that were a part of the second generation.

Generation 2 consists of several popular Pokemon that are sure to be highly sought after by players. Certainly, the previously mentioned starters and their evolved forms will be at the top of most everyone’s list. However, players will also be getting two new evolved forms of the popular generation one character Eevee. The first is the psychic evolution of Eevee known as Espeon, and the other is the dark evolution known as Umbreon.

It is not known at this time whether there will be a work around for players to predetermine which Eevee evolution they will encounter. If you will remember, naming your Eevees before evolving them would allow a player to be sure to get a certain one. Rainer would grant the player Vaporeon (water type). Sparky would grant the player Jolteon (electric type). Pyro would allow access to Flareon (fire type). No special names were data mined for the psychic and dark types.

Generation 2 also introduced players to special Pokemon called baby Pokemon. Baby Pokemon according to popular Pokemon fan encyclopedia Bulbapedia are the lowest stage of a Pokemon evolution. There are a few interesting facts about baby Pokemon that could make for interesting concepts in Pokemon GO.

First, baby Pokemon can only be obtained through breeding. While few have mentioned this in Pokemon GO circles, breeding is a major aspect of Pokemon games. This could be something of interest to players that might allow for another way to increase player experience, gain stardust, or both.

Baby Pokemon also were only able to evolve through maximum friendship. Friendship is not something lost in Pokemon GO. Recently, the buddy system was implemented to help players gain candy. It might be possible to actually achieve evolution of the baby Pokemon this way. Some notable baby Pokemon include Pichu, Cleffa, and Igglybuff. All of these Pokemon have catchable forms in Pokemon GO currently, Pikachu, Clefairy, and Jigglypuff.

Another noteworthy addition to generation two that might need a workaround are additional evolutions of Pokemon from generation one. This includes Slowking and Porygon2. Slowking evolves from Slobro of generation one, and Porygon2 evolves from Porygon. Players may want to hold onto any extra candies they have at the moment instead of using them and the needed stardust to power up Slobro and Porygon respectively.
