WWE Rumors: Former TNA Knockouts Champion Coming To WWE NXT Soon?

The latest WWE rumors are circulating after an interesting bit of social media was posted a day ago. It featured a former TNA Knockouts champion directly mentioning her intention of making a debut within the WWE NXT. Several of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling’s talents have already had stints with WWE, including Gail Kim, Maria Kanellis, Victoria, and Mickie James. However, a women’s wrestler who WWE had scouted over a decade ago and signed to a developmental deal may finally be making her official debut with the company, if there’s any merit to her comments.

On Thursday evening, former TNA Knockouts Champion Angelina Love tweeted directly to the WWE NXT Twitter account. In a few sentences, she teased her intentions of showing up for an upcoming Women’s Tournament. The tournament seems like it could be similar to that of the Cruiserweight Division, or more like a “Diva Search” type competition, but minus the divas aspect. Instead, it would be to find the next great women’s wrestling talents to bring on board with the company.

Just a day ago, WrestleZone reported on backstage news regarding the potential NXT Women’s Tournament. The story notes that the tournament’s tentative time for taking place is in early 2017. Apparently, talents from all over the world have been contacted about appearing in it. The interesting part is that some say they were told the tournament will happen in January while others have said it would be in March of 2017. However, it would be similar to what the Cruiserweight Classic was like, but there hasn’t been any mention of a new championship belt being unveiled for the women.

The other piece of information is that the Women’s tournament would be one of three tournaments held each year by WWE. It would join the Cruiserweight Classic and The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament lineup. So far, there is no official name for the women’s tournament in NXT.

As mentioned, Angelina Love was previously signed to a developmental contract by WWE. That was way back in 2004. She worked in several territorial programs including Ohio Valley Wrestling and Deep South Wrestling. While she was involved in several storylines and matches there, she worked with these territorial programs through 2007 and was eventually dropped from her contract just two days after debuting in a dark match with OVW. That was it for Angelina Love’s time with WWE and three years later she was part of a popular faction called “The Beautiful People” with TNA. The group involved her partnering with Velvet Sky at first and then Madison Rayne was eventually added to form a trio.

Love was released from TNA in 2009 but made a return again a year later. She would feud with her former partner Velvet Sky during her return, among other storylines. Love was released again in July of 2012 and returned in 2014. Needless to say, she’s solely been back and forth with TNA, but never with WWE. However, during her time with the TNA program, she was a six-time Knockouts Champion and among its most popular women’s wrestlers. Therefore, it would only make sense that she’d want to take her talents to the WWE where many other top women’s wrestlers have recently been appearing. They include Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Bayley.

There have always been the ongoing WWE rumors that Love’s former Beautiful People co-star, Velvet Sky, would come over to WWE. In fact, once Velvet’s real-life boyfriend Bubba Ray came back to WWE, the speculation grew larger. However, at this point, it appears that Love may be closer to appearing with the company than Sky is. Who knows, though; maybe both of the Beautiful People will make a surprise appearance in the NXT tournament.

Wrestling fans, how do you feel about Angelina Love bringing her talents over to WWE? Will she help to really boost the women’s division anymore? Which current women’s wrestler would you most like to see her feud with from WWE?
