‘Married At First Sight’ Season 5 Update, Return Date: New Season Filming Begins In Chicago

Married at First Sight is returning to the altar with three new couples. FYI officially confirmed Season 5 before the finale of Married at First Sight Season 4, which aired on October 25. The production on the new season reportedly started in Chicago in August.

In March, Married at First Sight casting producers visited Chicago to find six singles willing to marry strangers and have the process filmed for the docuseries, according to the Chicago Tribune. FYI’s top-rated series pairs six singles who meet for the first time at the altar on their wedding day. They get legally married to complete strangers, go on a honeymoon, and move in together. After six weeks, each couple has to decide whether they want to remain together or get a divorce.

The Chicago-set Married at First Sight Season 5 premieres in 2017, though FYI has yet to announce a specific return date. The identities of the six new singles are still under wraps, and their details are expected to be revealed a few weeks before the premiere date. FYI said that more than 40,000 singles from across the U.S. have applied to be on the series.

FYI has also ordered a 12-episode spin-off of the series, titled Married at First Sight: Second Chances, which is also slated to premiere sometime in 2017. The filming of this series began in September in Atlanta. Season 3 cast David Norton and Vanessa Nelson are returning to the reality show once again, to find everlasting love.

Meanwhile, Married at First Sight Season 4 reunion special airs on Tuesday night, November 1. The recently concluded season saw one couple, Heather Seidel and Derek Schwartz, deciding to abruptly end their marriage after two weeks. And in Season 4 finale, the other two couples, Sonia Granados and Nick Pendergrast and Lillian Vilchez and Tom Wilson, decided to stay together and not take the divorce route.

The reunion special will reveal whether the two couples are still together or have decided to parts ways after the camera stopped rolling. A sneak peek of the reunion special reveals Tom and Lillian’s marriage status.

The new sneak-peek uploaded by Us Weekly shows Lillian telling the relationship experts that she and Tom are still married, though marriage has not been an easy ride. After the Marriage at First Sight Season 4 finale, the couple has got a new place to live together.

“It’s been hard. Marriage is not easy. It’s not just about you, it’s about the other person, and both people have to have that mentality of ‘It’s not just about me. It’s about my spouse.'”

Lillian also says that she is happy with where they are today. Tom, on the other hand, is seen telling the experts that they were matched by the experts because they both complement each other in a lot of the right ways.

“We’re both happy people, and I wanted to be with someone that was happy deep down, that didn’t have those internal turmoil issues. And I feel like she definitely doesn’t have that.”

Tom and Lillian’s relationship seems to be growing stronger, but the same cannot be said about Nick and Sonia with certainty.

In the Married at First Sight Season 4 reunion special preview clip, Nick can be seen making an appearance without his wedding ring. One of the relationship experts asks him whether he and Sonia are still together.

There won’t be many raised eyebrows if Nick says that he and Sonia have decided to get a divorce, as the two, in their six-week marriage, have had plenty of issues related to emotional bonding and physical intimacy.
