McDonald’s McJordan BBQ Sauce Sells On eBay For Almost $10,000

A gallon of McDonald’s McJordan BBQ sauce has sold for nearly $10,000 on eBay, according the New York Daily News. Although the expired sauce probably shouldn’t be consumed by anyone who wants to continue living, that didn’t stop someone from dropping a significant chunk of change to bring the obscure burger dressing home.

If you don’t remember the McJordan — a quarter-pound hamburger with smoked bacon, cheese, McJordan barbecue sauce, onions, mustard, and a pickle — then you’re not alone. The burger, named after legendary basketball player Michael Jordan, was only sold in a few markets back in the 90s. As such, the expired BBQ sauce is extremely rare, making it a hot commodity for McDonald’s and Michael Jordan fans alike. Spending that much money on a fast food restaurant foodstuff may seem odd to some, but it’s likely to be worthy addition to one happy individual’s expansive collection.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the gallon of McDonald’s McJordan BBQ sauce was sold by North Dakota resident Mort Bank, a former franchise owner and operator. Over the years, Bank has acquired of a number of McDonald’s-themed items, many of which he’s put up for sale on eBay. While some of the items currently up for auction make sense, selling a bottle of expired sauce does sound a little peculiar.

“I’m friends with other McDonald’s owner/operators, and they just laugh when they find out I saved one gallon,” Bank said. “They either ran out of the sauce or threw it away. So there wouldn’t really be any reason for a person to save it. It had an expiration date on it anyway, which was December of 1992, so it would’ve expired.”

Unfortunately for those who need to know who would spend so much money on old McJordan sauce, Bank is refusing to reveal the identity of the individual who purchased the sauce.

Would you spend $10,000 on expired McDonald’s McJordan BBQ sauce?
