Mexican Drug Lord’s Daughter Arrested Trying To Enter US
A Mexican drug lord‘s daughter has been arrested after reportedly attempting to enter the United States on someone else’s passport, according to US officials on Monday.
Alejandrina Gisselle Guzman Salazar, 31, was arrested on Friday at San Diego’s San Ysidro port of entry, reports The Associated Press. The woman, who calls herself the daughter of Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, has been charged with fraud and misuse of visas, permits, and other documents.
US officials spoke of the connection between Guzman Salazar and the feared leader of Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel, but declined to give their names, because they have not been authorized to publicly discuss the arrest.
A woman by the name of Alejandrina Gisselle Guzman Salazar was charged in federal court on Monday, but Kelly Thornton, a spokeswoman for the US attorney’s office, stated that she couldn’t confirm if the woman is Guzman’s daughter.
The Mexican drug lord’s daughter has hired Jan Ronis, whose previous clients with links to organized crime include Benjamin Arellan Felix, the former leader of one of Mexico’s most powerful drug cartels. Ronis declined to comment on the charges, saying that he is still learning about the case.
According to Yahoo! News, court records show that the woman who claims to be the Mexican drug lord’s daughter told border patrol officers that she wanted to enter the United States so that she could give birth to her child in Los Angeles.
Mexico’s attorney general’s office has said that Alejandrina Gisselle Guzman Salazar is not wanted for any crimes in Mexico. She is reportedly the daughter of Maria Alejandrina Salazar Hernandez, who was Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s first wife.
An official stated that the woman is planning to meet up with the father of her child in Los Angeles. The official added that, while she may be the Mexican drug lord’s daughter, she doesn’t appear to be a big player in her father’s crime syndicate.
