Lamar Odom Blames Khloe Kardashian For His Substance Abuse Problems, Source Reports

Lamar Odom knows he isn’t perfect, and he only has one person to blame: Khloe Kardashian.

At least, that’s what an unnamed source for Hollywood Life is alleging. According to the celebrity news outlet, the former Los Angeles Lakers player blames his estranged wife and her reality TV empire for all of his problems.

“Lamar’s made it no secret to his family that he believes doing the Khloe & Lamar reality show was the beginning of his downfall. That type of television exposure made him feel uncomfortable and nervous and threw his whole basketball game off.”

The source, who is reportedly connected to Lamar’s family, went on to say that Lamlam was “trying to be Superman” and live up to all of Khloe’s expectations so that he could make his wife happy.

“He was trying to do way too much back then, pleasing Khloe and trying to be superman. The homie loved Khloe so much and put every one of her needs first and was trying too hard to live up to the Kardashian standards of fame and ultimately got caught up in the party scene as a result of being a reality star.”

Khloe & Lamar ran for two seasons. The first episode aired on April 10, 2011 and the final episode aired on May 13, 2012. Additionally, Odom occasionally appeared on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Lamar isn’t the first member of the Odom family to blame the Kardashian’s for Lammy’s downfall. Back in 2013, Odom’s estranged father, Joe, spoke with RadarOnline about the impact the Kardashian’s had on his then 33-year-old son. At the time, Joe Odom slammed the entire Kardashian family but focused on Khloe Kardashian and Kris Jenner in particular.

Joe went so far as to tell RadarOnline that Khloe and her family ruined Odom’s basketball career.

“They haven’t been a good influence on my son. It’s been the curse of his life. He hasn’t really accomplished anything since he’s been with them. Without them, he’d still be in the NBA playing basketball. He’d be playing for the Lakers and be one of the top players in the league.”

After a public reprimand from Odom, who defended the Kardashian family, Joe publicly apologized for the comments he made.

Like Lamar, Joe Odom also struggled with drug use. At the time of the 2013 interviews, Joe Odom claimed to have been clean from heroin and all other drugs for more than 15 years.

Lamar Odom’s substance abuse problem came to a head in October of 2015 when he was found unconscious in a Las Vegas-area brothel. The then 35-year-old had reportedly spent several days at the brothel before allegedly overdosing on a dangerous mixture of cocaine and sexual performance-enhancing drugs.

At the time, Odom was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital, where he spent several weeks in a hotel bed with his estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, at his side.

At the time of the overdose, Khloe and Lamar were going through the final stages of their divorce. In order to continue making medical decisions for Odom, Khloe withdrew her divorce paperwork so that she could stay married to Lamar. Khloe filed for divorce for a second time in May of 2016.

Kardashian and Odom were married in 2009 after a whirlwind romance. Khloe filed for divorce for the first time in 2013, citing irreconcilable differences. Khloe alleges that Lamar’s drug use and infidelity made it impossible to continue on in the marriage.

What do you think of the idea that the Kardashians cost Lamar Odom his basketball career? Do you think his time on TV could have influenced Odom’s substance use? Why or why not?
