Lady Gaga first appeared in Episode 2 of American Horror Story: Roanoke. Her appearance was brief and many viewers missed seeing it as she stood behind Thomasin (Kathy Bates). However, news of her appearance spread quickly on the internet, and by Episode 3, people were starting to speculate about her character.

Lady Gaga’s character was, however, still without a name on IMDb. This has meant fans have had to turn to what little they knew of her character to find out who she might be. Considering she has only shown up when there was human sacrifice involved, many viewers assumed her character was some sort of witch or deity.

Episode 3 of American Horror Story: Roanoke delved into the past of a character that is often seen with Lady Gaga: Thomasin. Thomasin was exiled by her own community and nearly died until Lady Gaga rescued her. Thanks to this backstory, more information was revealed to the audience about Lady Gaga’s character, yet, still no name was mentioned.

Then, in Episode 4 of American Horror Story: Roanoke, Lady Gaga’s character revealed her own backstory. Viewers found out that Lady Gaga’s character was “an English girl once, a descendant of the Druids and their Roman conquerors,” thanks to Matt’s (Andre Holland) interview during the AHS documentary, My Roanoke Nightmare. She had stowed away on a boat which brought her to America. When discovered on board, she was blamed for all the ills that plagued the voyage, so it was decided she should be burned at the stake. However, thanks to her Druid connections, the old gods stepped in and helped her evade that fate.

Since then, she has resided in the woods around Matt and Shelby’s land as some sort of pagan owner of the land. Thomasin has made human sacrifices on her behalf every year in October during the phase of the moon known as the “Dying Grass Moon.” As MTV pointed out, “the Dying Grass Moon is a six-day period leading up to the Blood Moon when the ghosts gain the ability to murder the living.” Now that Matt and Shelby have moved in and Dr. Elias Cunningham (Denis O’Hare) has also stated the six-day period had just begun, it looks likely there will be more bloodshed coming up in subsequent episodes of AHS Roanoke.

But, even with a backstory for Lady Gaga’s character, she is still without a name. So, who is Lady Gaga playing?

PopSugar delved into the mythology of the Druids and discovered a deity that could be Lady Gaga’s character. Arduinna is a Celtic goddess who is known to be a “goddess of the moon, hunting, and forests.” If that wasn’t enough, her sacred animal is the boar. And, if there is something we have seen a lot of in American Horror Story: Roanoke, it’s that strange Pig Man and plenty of pig references. Thomasin was also attacked by wild boar before Lady Gaga’s character stepped in to save her by offering her the still-beating heart of the boar. So Arduinna could very well be the name of Lady Gaga’s character in AHS Roanoke.
