‘American Horror Story: Roanoke’: Expect The Motts And Disembowelment In Episode 4

FX’s American Horror Story: Roanoke is gearing up for an episode that could link Season 6 with Season 4, Freak Show. However, viewers will also learn a thing or two about disembowelment along the way.

Spoiler alert: This article discusses Episode 4 of Season 6 of FX’s American Horror Story as well as Season 4 of AHS. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

Chapter 4 of American Horror Story: Roanoke potentially promises to uncover the backstory for the Motts, a strange family that was featured in American Horror Story: Freak Show. The Motts, and, in particular, Dandy Mott (Finn Wittrock), were a family that turned up in Season 4. Dandy turned out to be a very sick and twisted individual. His mother, Gloria Mott (Frances Conroy), loved her son dearly but was part of the reason he was so psychologically disturbed.

While it is not entirely certain the Motts backstory will be explained in Episode 4 of American Horror Story: Roanoke, it seems highly likely it will be in the episode thanks to a theory about Season 6 that involves each episode linking back to previous seasons of AHS. For example, Chapter 1 of Roanoke showed Matt and Shelby purchasing a haunted house. Season 1 of AHS, Murder House, also dealt with the purchase of a haunted house. Chapter 2 dealt with the two nurses who ran a care facility, therefore linking it to Season 2 of AHS, Asylum. Chapter 3 dealt with Thomasin White and what happened to her. Not only is Thomasin a very witchy name to have, but Lady Gaga’s character was introduced and she certainly seemed to have supernatural power that could be linked to American Horror Story: Coven. So, this naturally leads to the assumption that Chapter 4 of American Horror Story will deal with Season 4, Freak Show. If this is the case, it seems certain this will be the episode in which the Motts backstory will occur.

As revealed in a previous Inquisitr article, Episode 4 of American Horror Story: Roanoke could reveal the history of the Motts. And, as the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that it will be an amusing backstory.

“We explain how the Motts began which is funny.”

In Freak Show, viewers learned that the Motts were known for their inbreeding. So, could this have something to do with the foundation of their story?

Bustle have suggested Episode 4 and the introduction of the Motts could be the episode that finally reveals which character the elusive Evan Peters will be playing in this season of American Horror Story. They suggest Peters could play one of the descendants of Dandy Mott. PopSugar tend to agree with this theory, adding that they predict the Motts will either be the original owners of the house Matt and Shelby brought at the beginning of American Horror Story: Roanoke, or are, somehow, descendants of the lost colony of Roanoke. This could, potentially, put the Motts in the same place as Thomasin White (Kathy Bates) and her son, Ambrose (Wes Bentley). Considering Thomasin’s husband was the governor of Roanoke, it would certainly show how the Motts have always been in a position of power.

Something else viewers can expect in Chapter 4 of American Horror Story: Roanoke is a disembowelment according to E! Online.

“If you ever wanted to see how you do a human disemboweling, watch Episode 4 and you’ll learn a lot.”

Once again, this could tie back to Thomasin White, who is also known as “the Butcher.” However, let’s face it, this is American Horror Story, a graphic disembowelment could literally turn up at any point and involve any character within the upcoming episode. Considering Matt (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) was shown at the very end of Chapter 3 of AHS in a fugue state, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that even Matt could be involved in the disembowelment.
