The Vampire Diaries returns with Season 8 this month and fans are getting excited. However, there is also apprehension because it will be the final season. Even though the premiere has not aired on The CW yet, executive producer Julie Plec revealed some information about the finale. How will the show end?
There could be TVD spoilers below. If you do not want to know what could happen on the television show, then do not continue reading. There is a lot of debate regarding how The Vampire Diaries will end, as the Inquisitr has previously speculated on. However, now there is more information about what kind of Season 8 finale viewers could expect. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Julie Plec discussed many things. One of those had to do with if the characters in TVD will get happy endings or not.
"Cynicism doesn't have its way in series finales. My emotional desire when I watch a series come to an end is to be crying and laughing and cheering as the final credits roll, feeling like I just got delivered the happy ending, whether the plot ends happily or not."Co-creator Kevin Williamson also talked about the final season. One show that ended with a finale he will always remember is Breaking Bad.
"I felt complete when that show ended. It was sad, it was tragic, but I felt satisfied. It was a big thank you. You want to say thank you to the audience and you also want to satisfy them, not just one last time, but for the ultimate time. And you want that last episode to give them such a reward for sticking with you and watching this show all the years."Although many fans want to see "Delena" together, it isn't known if that will actually happen. Nina Dobrev did make an emotional promise to Plec that she would return before the finale episode. However, no deal has been struck, at least none that has been reported. In an interview, Plec said that she had a backup plan just in case Dobrev was unable to appear in the final season of The Vampire Diaries. Don't worry, just because no official announcement has been made doesn't necessarily mean it isn't happening. Fans might just be surprised by a sudden appearance by Elena Gilbert or Katherine Pierce.
Even though it sounds like The Vampire Diaries Season 8 finale will be memorable and there will be happy endings, that doesn't mean the story will end on a positive note. Plec used the keywords "whether the plot ends happily or not." This almost sounds like there will be some tragedy, but fans will be happy about what happens to the characters. One theory is that Elena will wake up while Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Micahel Malarkey) are saved. There will be some loophole to the sleeping spell so Elena and Bonnie (Kat Graham) can both be awake and alive at the same time. The tragedy in all of this would be if Damon and Elena decided to end their lives together, hands intertwined. They would reunite after all of this time, but their lives will end by their own choice. That certainly would make "Delena" fans cry and would be a reunion to remember, but a tragic ending all at the same time.
It will be interesting to see how the writers decide to end TVD. Will Damon and Elena end up together? Will Stefan and Caroline aka "Steroline" actually get married? What about Bonnie, who is losing hope that Enzo will be found? Fans will just have to tune in to find out.The Vampire Diaries Season 8 premieres on October 21.
