Is There A Black Moon Prophecy That Says The End Of The World Will Be Friday? What Is A Black Moon?

A rare lunar phenomenon, a black moon, will occur on Friday, September 30, and will be the first one since March 30, 2014. Those who believe that rare celestial events can somehow foreshadow the end of the world are taking to social media in order to make their cases.

What Is A Black Moon?

According to National Geographic, a black moon is essentially the opposite of a blue moon. Where a blue moon is the second full month within the same month, a black moon is the second new moon that occurs during the same month. During a new moon, the moon is situated between the Earth and the sun. The dark side of the moon will be facing Earth and that is why new moons can’t be seen in the night sky.

There are also other times when the term black moon can be used according to Moon Faqs. The website states that anytime there is no full moon or new moon during one of the months of the year then that can be considered a black moon. These two events can only happen in February since that month only has 28 days, except on leap year when it has 29.

The modern calendar that we use is slightly off from the lunar cycle. The moon goes through a 29.5-day cycle in which all the phases of the moon occur.For the most part, a new moon will only happen once a month but since our months consist of mostly 30 or 31 days, every once in a while a second new moon (black moon) will happen. On average, a black moon will occur, on average, every 32 months.

Will The Black Moon Be The Begining Of The End Of The World?

An end of the world website, Now the End Begins, talks about the black moon prophecy and how the one one Friday will happen right before the Jewish feast of trumpets. Also known as Rosh Hashana,the Jewish New Year, the Jewish feast of trumpets begins on October 2, 2016. October 3 is also the start of Muharram, the first month of the lunar calendar in the Muslim religion. Those who believe in the end of the world prophecy feel that having the black moon occur right before two beginnings in two of the world’s major religions gives this prophecy some weight.

As mentioned earlier, the last black moon happened on March 30, 2014. The year shattered the 32-month average of when black moons happen. Prior to March 30, the black moon before that happened only 59-days earlier on January 30. Interestingly, the day after the black moon on March 30, 2014, Chile was struck by an 8.2 magnitude earthquake, thus giving credence to those who believe that the black moon can cause catastrophic things to happen on Earth.

End of the world prophecies has been part of civilization since the world began. Just in the last 20 years, the end of the world was supposed to have happened on January 1, 2000, and on December 21, 2012.
