‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 Premiere: When Does ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Return For The Fall TV 2016 Schedule?

There are many questions over The Vampire Diaries Season 8. One of those is when it will return to the CW for the fall TV 2016 schedule? Is it making its way to TV screens this October or do fans have to wait until January like The Originals?

Let’s get to the bad news first. This is the final season of The Vampire Diaries. To make matters worse, there are only going to be 16 episodes. Maybe it isn’t good news then that the show will return in October, 2016. It just means that the show will end sooner.

Back in June, the CW announced the fall TV schedule, and The Vampire Diaries return was there. Season 8 will premiere on October 21, 2016, at 8 p.m. It is getting the Friday night slot that it had for the second half of Season 7. That was the slot that had many fans worried that the show would be canceled after the 2015-2016 schedule.

Julie Plec and the cast announced that Season 8 would be the last at San Diego Comic Con 2016. The team is going out in the way it wants, which the network has supported. Now fans want to know what it means for the characters. Will Stefan and Caroline get their June wedding or will Caroline leave Stefan to be with Klaus?

GameNGuide reports that Elena may return to the series but choose Stefan over Damon. The love triangle between the Salvatore brothers and Elena has been around from the start. She originally chose to be with Stefan but found herself pulled to Damon after being turned into a vampire. It turned out to be a sire bond at first, but that was broken after she turned off her humanity and never came back when she flipped the switch back on. She still decided to give her love for Damon a chance, exciting Delena shippers. This all ended with tragedy when Nina Dobrev decided that she wanted to leave The Vampire Diaries and the writers decided to put her in a deep sleep, linked to Bonnie’s life force.

It is unknown whether Dobrev will definitely return for The Vampire Diaries Season 8. Plec says that there was the agreement that she would at least return for the series finale, but there has been no confirmation from anyone that that will take place. Now rumors suggest that she will return for Episode 2 as a way to save Damon from this evil that has taken over him.

Plec says that the series finale will have a mixture of happy and sad moments. Fans will be laughing and crying at the same time, and it looks like not everyone will get a happy ending. Some characters may go into The Originals, but nothing has been confirmed yet. It isn’t even clear if The Originals will continue after Season 4, after getting a reduced episode order.

All that is known about the final season is that Damon and Enzo have been taken over by the evil that was in the vault. The evil doesn’t even have a name yet—well, not a name that fans know—but is set to be the biggest thing that the Salvatores and their friends have ever faced. It will be up to Stefan, Caroline, and Bonnie to find a way to locate and save Damon and Enzo.

Don’t forget to set your DVR. The Vampire Diaries Season 8 premieres on the CW on Friday, October 21, 2016, at 8 p.m.
