Tuesday night’s episode of Below Deck showed a voice from the past. In one scene, Kelley Johnson called his sister, Amy Johnson, to talk about what was happening on the yacht and complain about Trevor Walker’s behavior. Amy starred on the show’s second and third seasons. In an interview with Bravo’s The Daily Dish, Kate Chastain, who starred alongside Amy on seasons 2 and 3, gave an update on Amy’s current life and how Kelley, who was in Season 2 with them prior to returning for the current 4th season, dealt with working and filming without his sister there.
Kate said that Amy’s currently living the dream life, which she’s “so happy” about. According to Kate, Amy has a great boyfriend, with whom she’s working on a yacht with.
“I’m really sad that Amy’s not here, but I also know that she has a really gorgeous, younger South African boyfriend, and they are working on a yacht together, so she has sailed off into the sunset and is very happy.”
On Instagram about six weeks ago, Amy posted a photo that seems to show the back of her new love.
As for Kelley, Kate told the Daily Dish that Kelley missed having his sister there working beside him.
“I think Kelley misses having her there. So I feel like I kind of have to be a little bit of the stand-in Amy, you know, as a good friend. I have to step it up as the understudy sister, maybe.”
On the latest episode, Kelley called Amy. They told one another how much they miss each other. Kelley also complained about Trevor. Trevor came on as the senior deckhand but after displaying arrogant and condescending behavior and ordering the two deckhands, Nico Scholly and Lauren Burchell, around a bit too much, Kelley, as the bosun, decided to demote Trevor. Kelley told Amy about Trevor’s outrageous behavior, including the time when they and Nico were in a hot tub together and Trevor insulted Nico’s tattoo.
Kate Chastain, who tweeted as the episode aired, applauded Amy‘s sense of humor regarding the hot tub situation. Kate said that Amy gave the best line of the night. Kelley, who confessed during the episode that talking to Amy always calms him down even in the most trying of times and that Amy’s “the s**t,” re-tweeted Kate’s tweet.
Kelley, who leaned on Amy for support during Season 2, also tweeted to Amy that she’s a blessing of a sister.
The week prior, during the season premiere episode, Amy Johnson tweeted her support for Kelley. Amy said that she loves watching Kelley this season.
Proud sister moment! Love seeing @KJBombDotCom on this season of #belowdeck ????— Amy Johnson (@gypsy_homemaker) September 7, 2016
Amy also congratulated the entire Season 4 cast and said that the new season looks to be a fun one.
While Kelley Johnson didn’t have Amy for support while filming Season 4, he’s actually enjoying watching the current season quite a bit more than his last.
Perhaps that’s because Kelley is currently shown as a professional crew member who deals with everyone with respect, in contrast to season 2, when he was shown frequently butting heads with Captain Lee Rosbach because of his disrespectful behavior? On the Season 4 premiere episode, Kelley said that he has changed and promised Captain Lee that he was not going to disappoint him. Kate commented that Amy, whom she’s good friends with, told her that Kelley has taken courses in order to prove himself to Captain Lee.
Kate and Amy weren’t always such good friends. While they got along great on Season 3, they were often at odds on the prior season. During Kate and Amy’s joint appearance on Andy Cohen’s talk show Watch What Happens Live in September, 2015, a viewer called in and asked Kate, the chief stewardess, if she regretted being horrible to Amy, the second stewardess, during the second season. Kate said that she wasn’t.
“No. I’m sorry. I love you now, we love each other but at the time I was just working. It wasn’t a personal thing for me…”
Amy commented that Kate was a lot nicer in the third season than she was in the second.
“I think she’s, you’ve gotten a lot nicer this season… but we’re past it. It’s a chapter behind us.”
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Kate Chastain revealed during an interview in July that on the first day on the yacht Valor, Kelley Johnson handed her a letter that Amy Johnson wrote to her, as well as four pairs of earrings, since Kate always complemented Amy on her earrings. Now that all three are getting along, perhaps Season 5 of Below Deck will star Kate, Kelley, and Amy all together?
