Michigan Man Allegedly Murders His Four Children, Fails To Kill Wife, Calls Police

Michigan resident Gregory Green has been arrested after placing a 911 call and telling the dispatcher that he was responsible for a quadruple homicide that left his four children dead and their mother, Faith Green, in critical condition, Reuters is reporting. Reports say the man was sitting on the front porch waiting for police to arrive and gave up without incident.

Gregory Green allegedly placed a call around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday from the family residence in Dearborn Heights, a small city with a population of 56,000 located 20 minutes west of Detroit.

A preliminary investigation conducted after police officers had taken the suspect into custody revealed that the deceased siblings were aged 4, 6, 17 and 18-years-old. The 4-year-old girl and the 6-year-old girl, both of whom were the biological children of the couple, were found to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

According to a local news outlet, the father had asphyxiated the young girls in a vehicle in the family garage before returning them to their beds. The older victims, his step-children Chadney Allen, 19, and Kara Allen, 17, were both allegedly bound and executed in the basement of the Michigan home.

The mother, who was shot and stabbed, was quickly transported to a hospital. Captain Michael Petri of the police department said she was in stable condition and was expected to survive her injuries.

“It does appear that her injuries were not life-threatening and, hopefully, she will make a recovery.”

Petri confirmed that an investigation was underway, but the early clues indicated the alleged murders “seemed to stem from a domestic-violence related incident.” Captain Petri refused to disclose the type of weapon used to kill Green’s step children.

Neighbors were shocked Wednesday to wake up to a heavy police presence on the usually quiet street dotted with ranch homes. A neighbor, Karen Radtke, who said the family moved in across the street about three years ago, said she never communicated with the family, but it was distressing to find out the tragedy that had taken place at their Dearborn Heights home.

Another neighbor, who preferred to remain anonymous, said his wife woke him up around 1 a.m. saying that she heard the alleged suspect and his wife arguing on the porch before a gunshot rang out.

“I said, well, if you hear a gunshot in this neighborhood at 1 o’clock in the morning—if you hear a boom—it’s unusual…it’s not a firecracker.”

Birthday decorations were still seen hanging around the family home when police officers and investigators converged on the scene. A neighbor, Ronnie Jones, confirmed that there was a birthday party at the house less than three weeks ago, and the family had been renovating the house for the last three months. Neighbors said that they had seen the young girls playing with their dog the day before.

Dearborn Heights Mayor Dan Paletko said he had never seen anything like the tragedy that occurred, and as a father, he could not comprehend the motivation that could make a man murder his family.

“This is a very rare occurrence and it’s just difficult to understand the motivation… I don’t understand what happened in this household.”

According to ABC News, Faith Green had filed for divorce from Gregory Green in August, citing a “breakdown in the marriage relationship.” Records show that Faith had previously filed for divorce from Gregory in 2013, but no subsequent action was taken.

Gregory Green, who has a lengthy history of violence, pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in 1992 and served 16 years in prison before he was released on parole in 2010.

He is expected to be arraigned in court before the weekend.
