Ariel Winter Postpones College: ‘Modern Family’ Star Says ‘We Couldn’t Make It Work’

Ariel Winter won’t be heading back to school in the fall with the rest of her classmates at UCLA, but that doesn’t mean she is gone for good. The Modern Family actress has deferred her start date for a year due to her hectic professional schedule.

Winter, 18, told E! News at the Emmys Casting Nominees Reception that she plans on starting as a UCLA Bruin next year.

“Unfortunately t his year, due to production schedule, I have to start next year.”

The Modern Family actress plans to major in political science and wants to become a lawyer.

“I would love to continue acting but it’s definitely important, I think, to go and do something else as well. You never know if something’s not going to work out, if one day acting is like, ‘No, we don’t like you anymore!'”

The actress plays Alex Dunphy on Modern Family, which was nominated for two awards at the Emmys this year, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

She, along with co-stars Ty Burrell, Sofia Vergara, and Sarah Hyland, will return for the eighth season this Wednesday night on ABC.

The young actress had previously spoken about her desire to further her education despite her success as a working actress.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to become a lawyer, and social justice just feels like it fits for me. I want to continue acting and also go to law school. I think the more knowledge you have, can only better your life.”

She told People back in January that she had always felt social justice was a good fit for her.

Ariel Winter also recently went through a breakup with longtime boyfriend Laurent Claude Gaudette.

On Instagram, Ariel also quickly shut down rumors that she was dating childhood friend and actor Sterling Beaumon.

“Everyone thinking I’m taken when I’m just over here like hi I’m single AF.”

“It’s funny, you know? Everyone thinks when a girl walks out with a guy, and they’re friends, immediately it has to be that they’re dating if they spend a lot of time together.

“When really it’s just that people have friends, they see each other.”

Ariel is keeping her mind on the money for a while, preparing for shooting the next season of Modern Family.

“The problem was that I had made my schedule, when I went to production we couldn’t make it work this year because of heavy story lines.”

Winter will certainly be kept busy over the next few months with filming. Instead of bringing a date to the Emmys, Ariel brought along her best friend and rocked a dazzling, embellished gown.

Ariel also took a moment to give young women a self-esteem boost by addressing the timeless issue of body image.

“I’m curvy and I like it. Everybody’s bodies are beautiful.”

If her dress looks familiar, it is probably because you saw a shorter version on Kylie Jenner last week at New York Fashion Week.

Winter has spoken out in the past about body positivity and bullying.

Aside from Modern Family, Ariel Winter has also been busy filming for her new movie Dog Years, alongside co-star Burt Reynolds, and has also hinted at various projects on her social media pages.
