Arkansas Teacher Resigns Amid Sex With A Student Claims [Video]

Bryant, AR – High school teacher Courtney Speer resigned after allegations that she had sex with a student in the parking lot surfaced on Monday. The Bryant High School educator is currently being investigated by local law enforcement officers. Speer, 31, is accused of initiating an illicit relationship with a 17-year-old student. A school resource officer alerted investigators that Speer may have taken her relationship outside the academic setting, KATV reports.

The English teacher faces four counts of sexual assault charges. The victim claims the first time he had sex with his teacher was in the high school parking lot in June, according to police statements republished by the Daily Mail. The alleged victim told detectives that he and Speer had sex together a total of four times, once inside her home.

Sgt. Todd Crowson had this to say about the sex with teacher claims:

“He told them of four occasions, four encounters he had with her at Bryant parking lot, high school parking lot, in her car. She was actually scheduled to come in and speak with investigators today. She did retain an attorney and the attorney did contact the investigators and advised them that he would have her there first thing in the morning to turn herself in.”

Whether or not allegations against Courtney Speer from other students have been raised remains to be seen, but Benton Police Lt. Kevin Russell noted more charges could be coming from both departments.

Lt. Russell had this to say about the allegations that the high school teacher had sex with at least one student:

“To hear this about a teacher who is in a position of trust over students, it is not just from a law enforcement perspective but from a parent’s perspective, it is kind of disheartening.”

Sexual assault is a class-A felony in Arkansas and carries a prison term of six to 30 years.
