‘Married At First Sight’ News: Derek Tried To Talk To Heather After Split, Shares Details
Last week on a new episode of Married at First Sight, fans saw that Derek Schwartz and Heather Seidel were going to go ahead and get a divorce. They were not married for long at all, but Heather was done and didn’t even want to try anymore. Now The New York Post is sharing that Derek wasn’t ready for their marriage to end and is speaking out about it all. You are only supposed to try being married for six weeks, but Heather and Derek didn’t even try that long.
Derek Schwartz shared that just two days after they got married, he already knew there were problems. They had 45 minutes or so with cameras around, but Derek shared that Heather wouldn’t even talk to him and was just on her phone instead. When asked if there was any physical connection with them, Derek said, “The second night that we were together, we went and got a bite to eat and we walked back to the hotel with our arms around each other. And really that was it. Other than that, there was never any hand-holding, hugging, any affection between us whatsoever.”

When Heather made the decision to divorce Derek, they hadn’t even tried being married for six weeks yet, but he didn’t expect it. Heather didn’t even give Derek a chance. She hasn’t spoken to him since that moment on Married at First Sight when she said that she wanted a divorce, but that hasn’t stopped Derek from trying. He shared that he has reached out to her. Here is what Derek shared when asked if he had talked to her.
“I have not. I reached out before the first episode aired, I found her on Facebook and sent her a friend request and sent her a message saying, ‘Are you excited for the show to come on?’ When we got our Twitter accounts, I reached out to her… Just trying to be friendly. I never heard back from her on either occasion.”
Heather and Derek may have been married, but that doesn’t mean that he had feelings for her. The two were married at first sight, but as Derek explained, they were not married long enough for him to feelings toward her one way or another. Derek does admit that when getting married to a stranger, he didn’t expect Heather to be so judgmental without even knowing him. She never gave their marriage a chance.

One thing that will happen is that you will still get to see Derek Schwartz on Married at First Sight this season. He shared the details saying, “Yeah, the producers afterward let me know [that] regardless of what happened, we’re still going to be filming with [Heather and me] the exact same way as if [we] had stayed together. It was a little bit less intensive, but we still got together and shot different things, so hopefully [there will] be times where I’m still on the show and updates on how I’ve dealt with the decision.”
IB Times shared a bit about the timeline of what went wrong with Heather and Derek on Married at First Sight. A lot of their problem had to do with Derek’s smoking. Heather said she didn’t want a smoker, and he was doing it all the time. On their wedding day, she was uncomfortable with kissing him, and things just went downhill from there. Derek thought she was flirting with someone else on the honeymoon and only seven days in, they asked for help with their relationship.
