Maureen McCormick will bring Marcia Brady to the dance floor on the Dancing With the Stars TV theme week. Pure DWTS posted the full ABC press release for the Week 2 dances, and it’s no surprise that McCormick will take on the iconic theme song from the 1970s sitcom that made her famous. Maureen and her partner Artem Chigvintsev will perform a quickstep to the Brady Bunch theme.
Maureen McCormick already has the support of her TV mom, Florence Henderson, as she competes for the 23rd DWTS mirrorball trophy. Henderson was in the audience to cheer on her on-screen daughter during McCormick’s Dancing With the Stars debut last week. Florence even hugged Maureen and told her she was proud of her.
“I love her,” Henderson told host Tom Bergeron of McCormick.
As for Maureen, following in her TV mom’s footsteps has been a dream come true.
“I have been waiting for this all my life,” McCormick said of the ABC celebrity ballroom competition.
But Maureen McCormick will have her work cut out for her during her Week 2 dance. The 60-year-old actress only received 22 out of 30 points for her debut dance last week, putting her second from the bottom on the judges’ leaderboard. In addition, when she competed on Dancing With the Stars in 2010, Henderson was sent home the week that she danced to the Brady theme.
Still, with any luck, fans will see more Brady cameos as Maureen dances to the famous song. When Florence rehearsed her Brady theme dance, her TV son Barry Williams (Greg on The Brady Bunch) turned up to give her some pointers. Williams even joked that Henderson’s pro partner, Corky Ballas, was a little too young.
“He’s a little young for you, he’s younger than Bobby,” Williams said.
Maureen McCormick has remained close with Williams over the years, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see him or some of the other Brady alums in the DWTS audience. In fact, Maureen recently posted a throwback photo of herself with her middle TV brother, Chris Knight, so maybe that was a tease that Peter Brady will be in the house.
Less likely will be a cameo from McCormick’s TV sister, Eve Plumb, who played middle daughter Jan Brady on the classic sitcom. McCormick and Plumb have been estranged in recent years. Plumb has not commented on Maureen’s DWTS gig.
In addition to Maureen McCormick’s TV theme, fellow sitcom alum Marilu Henner and her partner Derek Hough will take on the theme song from her ’70s show, Taxi.
Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko will take on a tango to a song made famous by fellow DWTS alum, Gavin DeGraw. They’ll dance to DeGraw’s song, “I Don’t Want to Be,” from the TV series One Tree Hill.
Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke will dance the quickstep to the song from The Muppet Show.
Rick Perry and Emma Slater will also dance a quickstep, but their song will be the theme from the 1960s sitcom Green Acres.
Jake T. Austin and Jenna Johnson will cha cha to the theme from the Dora the Explorer spinoff, Go, Diego, Go!, while Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez will also get animated as she dances a jive to the DuckTales theme with Val Chmerkovskiy.
James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess will Paso Doble as they pay tribute to the zombie-themed series The Walking Dead.
Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and pro dancer Allison Holker will Argentine Tango to The X-Files theme song.
Calvin Johnson Jr. will channel his inner Urkel as he performs a foxtrot with Lindsay Arnold to the Family Matters theme.
And, like Maureen McCormick, Terra Jolé will go back in time to a classic ’60s/’70s sitcom as she dances a quickstep with Sasha Farber to the Bewitched song.
Other dances will include Amber Rose and Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s Viennese Waltz to the Game of Thrones theme and Vanilla Ice and Witney Carson’s foxtrot to “Love and Marriage,” the opening song from the ’80s comedy Married…with Children.
You can see Maureen McCormick and the rest of the stars as they compete for the mirrorball when Dancing with the Stars returns Monday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC.
