WWE News: Becky Lynch Talks Being Champion, Feeling Pressure After Her Win At ‘Backlash’

At WWE Backlash on September 11, SmackDown Live put together a great show for the WWE Universe, and two matches tore down the house. Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles for the WWE World championship shocked the world when Styles defeated the Lunatic Fringe to capture his first belt in the WWE. He used a referee distraction to give Ambrose a low blow to take him off his game. Styles used his signature move, the Styles Clash, for the victory.

The Miz and Dolph Ziggler had the other five-star match, where they fought for the Miz’s Intercontinental championship. He’s been over for weeks now after he cut that promo on Daniel Bryan. It was arguably his best work in the WWE to date. WWE fans rejoiced online when they saw this match being made, and they weren’t disappointed. Both men brought their all to the table when it mattered most during SmackDown Live’s first pay-per-view.

The Women’s division on SmackDown Live also did an excellent job at Backlash. Becky Lynch won her first championship in the company. She was graced with a “You deserve it” chant. It may have been Eva Marie if not for her 30-day suspension. The Irish-born superstar achieved her dream and is now in the top position on SmackDown Live. Their Women’s division is stacked, which is ironic due to the pre-conceived notions that WWE Raw’s was the better one.

They are reaping what they sowed and the blue brand is basking in the glory. Smackdown Live had a No. 1 contender’s match to crown the next opponent for Becky Lynch. Alexa Bliss won that match, and she’s in line to face the Irish Lasskicker at No Mercy in October. It will be Lynch’s first championship defense. Is she feeling the pressure of holding gold in the WWE?

In a recent interview, Becky Lynch talked about winning the SmackDown Women’s championship and feeling the pressure of holding gold.

“It still doesn’t feel real. The next day over breakfast, I wrote everything down but it still hasn’t hit me. Today, I did a children’s hospital visit, and when the kids saw the title they got so excited. When they were able to hold it, that made it a bit little more real for me, seeing their excitement holding a title belt, because that’s how I feel. It meant a lot that I was the first. You go down in the history books. The big ones have eluded me, but this meant everything to me.

“I feel pressure, but it’s a good pressure. It’s one that I feel I’m ready for and one that I’m destined for…”

What makes Lynch so likable is her honesty and candor to the WWE Universe and to everyone around her. She was a good heel in WWE NXT, but Lynch is an excellent babyface, which WWE officials can build a brand off of. While her moniker is the Irish Lasskicker, she has a great heart and deserves all of the success she is having right now.

Fox Sports even covered Lynch’s title win at Backlash, which is a huge testament to her drawing ability as a WWE superstar. When the mainstream media decides to cover the WWE, they usually pick the popular wrestlers. That’s a good sign for Lynch moving forward.

How will the WWE move forward with their Women’s division on Tuesday nights? Alexa Bliss and Becky Lynch will have a great match at No Mercy, that’s a guarantee. After a few title defenses, she may get the recognition she truly deserves and remain in the conversation for the best female wrestler in the WWE.
