‘American Horror Story’ Season 6: It’s Not Long Now Until The Big Theme Reveal, Are You Excited Or Annoyed You Don’t Know Yet?

Season 6 of American Horror Story will premiere on FX today, yet, so far, nothing is known about the theme of the series. So is this a good idea, marketing-wise or just a good way to annoy the fan base?

As far as a theme goes for Season 6 of American Horror Story, fans have many options to choose from. However, pick wisely, as only one of the released promo themes is actually true.

FX chief John Landgraf revealed to Vulture that “one of [the themes] is accurate; the others are all misdirects.”

So if you have liked the image the baby crib with the wicked mobile but are afraid of spiders so much that you can’t even look at that promo of the spiders as eyelashes, then Season 6 could be a tough year. However, you won’t even know until you tune into the premiere of American Horror Story on Wednesday night.

If you want to be reminded of all the possible themes linked to Season 6 of American Horror Story, FX has kindly released the following video via Twitter to remind fans.

Since the end of Season 5 of American Horror Story, speculation began as to the next theme on a show that has self-contained seasons based around a common theme every year. There have been as many varied suggestions as there have been theories around who Negan killed in the Season 6 cliffhanger finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead. Speculation has ranged from the show being based on Charles Mason through to the current possibility that the Season 6 theme could be centered on Stephen King’s book, The Mist. Several sources have stated the theme is The Mist. But, considering there is also a new TV series based on King’s book currently in development for release with Spike in 2017 according to Deadline, it is possible the two have been somehow mixed together.

In previous years, the show’s creators have released artwork depicting the latest theme before the season airs, giving fans time to think about and possibly over-analyze what could happen in the new season. But, this year, fans have been left high and dry in the lead up to the Season 6 premiere of American Horror Story. While some fans have been happy to delve into the backstories revealed in all of the promotional images, others are not prepared to invest in all of the themes and just want to know what to expect.

Vulture has even gone so far as to keep the ball rolling in regards to theme ideas by releasing their own ideas on what could be used for Season 6 of American Horror Story. Their suggestions have been just as varied as FX’s and include seasons involving Tinder, Scientology, and Ikea. But, seriously, can we have a Scientology version of American Horror Story in the future, FX?

So what can fans expect from Season 6 of American Horror Story? The short answer is, expect anything. Each season so far (Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, and Hotel) have been based on existing horrible stories from history. So, Season 6 is likely to follow in this thread.

As for whether this kind of marketing will help or hinder American Horror Story Season 6, FX will have to wait until the ratings are released for viewership on the show. Keeping everything a huge mystery could keep fans guessing and desperate to tune in tonight to find out what the theme is. On the other hand, fans might have grown tired of the wait and have decided to watch something else tonight, opting to find out what the theme is before they decide to watch or not.
