‘The Young And The Restless’ News: Chuck Pratt Jr Out As ‘Y&R’ Head Writer, Sally Sussman Morina Named As A Possible Replacement

Chuck Pratt Jr. is reportedly out as headwriter on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. TV Line reported that the former showrunner was named as the writer/producer of Lee Daniels’ Star, which is set to start filming later this month.

Ever since Pratt debuted as the writer on The Young and the Restless, the fans have requested that CBS reconsider their choice. He created big explosions, a plane crash, multiple DNA swaps, and tarnished well-known characters with his lackluster style of writing.

Several months ago, Young and the Restless producer Jill Farren Phelps was fired from the show. At the time. many viewers felt that her dismissal from the daytime drama would lead to Pratt’s ousting from the TV show. CBS never made any type of announcement that Chuck was officially out as the head writer and didn’t acknowledge who would take over his position.

TV Line reported that Chuck Pratt was named as the writer/producer of the new FOX show, Star. In early September, Charles Murray left the show after many creative differences with the co-creators of the show, Lee Daniels and Tom Donaghy. They reportedly parted ways on a friendly note and agreed that it was the best decision for all involved. Daniel named Pratt the showrunner and executive producer of Star.

The Atlanta-based show Star follows three women, Ryan Destiny, Jude Demorest and Brittany O’Grady, who form a music group and experience the highs and lows of the entertainment business. The cast includes Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt, and Nicholas Gonzales. The series is set to begin filming later this month and will debut on FOX in early 2017 on Wednesday evenings.

The Young and the Restless didn’t acknowledge that Chuck Pratt was leaving the series, She Knows Soaps reports. His departure will make many Y&R fans happy as they were not happy with his writing style. They felt that he completely ruined Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), Adam Newman (formerly Justin Hartley), Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John), and Sharon McAvoy (Sharon Case). Many felt Chuck was in Jill Farren Phelps’ pocket and was one of her puppets.

Several months ago, Mal Young was hired as Jill’s replacement, and many viewers assumed that Chuck would be out as soon as his contract was up. As it turns out, he left months before his contract was over in January. For many Young and the Restless fans, his departure will be a happy one.

“Y&R finally fired Chuck Pratt. About time! As a JC and Avery fan, this is a glorious day. Bye Bye hack!”

Daytime Confidential reports that former Young and the Restless writer Sally Sussman Morina may return to the series. Her return would make many viewers extremely ecstatic because she was one of the most loved writers of all time — next to William Bell, of course.

Sally began her writing career under legendary showrunner William Bell. She helped invent the Newmans and the Abbotts. Sussman Morina went on to write for several years at Days of Our Lives, creating a brilliant storyline that was often comical for Eileen Davidson and introduced Nicole Walker (Adrianne Zucker). As of now, Sally has not inked a deal to return, but sources confirmed that it is a possibility.

Chuck Pratt’s TV resume includes The Lying Game, Desperate Housewives, Melrose Place, Ugly Betty, All My Children, General Hospital, and Santa Barbara. He will be an asset to the FOX new TV series Star.
