Gunmen Attack Florida VFW: Leave 2 Dead And 1 Wounded

Two people were fatally shot and one was wounded in Winter Springs, Florida on Sunday morning at a Veteran of Foreign Wars lodge. The VFW lodge was where many motorcycle riders gathered in order to raise money for injured bikers.

According to NBC News, the shooting in Winter Springs occured at around 10:40 a.m. at the VFW Post 5405 located at 420 N. Edgemon Drive. The lodge is near state Route 434, about 15 miles northeast of Orlando, Florida.

Riders were inside the lodge finishing breakfast and were about to set out on their charity ride, when armed men came into the lodge and started shooting, reports the Orlando Sentinal.

Police evacuated the people inside the VFW to a nearby senior center. Police also detained several people and confiscated many weapons from them.

According to WESH.com, the police spokesman, Lt. Doug Sealey, said that he is unable to provide any detailed information about the shooting, such as motive for violence, number of shots fired, and how many people did the shooting.

“We have a lot of crime scene…” Seely said, according to the Sentinel. “We have a lot of people detained and a lot of weapons detained, and we’re ascertaining what matches what.”

Sealey did tell the newspaper, however, that all three victims appeared to be motorcycle club memebrs.

Officials say that two of the victims died at the scene and the third one was wounded and immediately taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center’s trauma unit.

Police say that the investigation is still in the early processes, but they believe that they have the shooter in custody.
