Charlaina Lee Wilson: Teacher Arrested For Sex With Student After Explicit Video Circulates At School

Charlaina Lee Wilson is behind bars after the Alabama teacher was accused of having sex with a student, which reportedly came to light after an explicit video of the 33-year-old began circulating at her high school.

The Selma High School teacher was arrested on Friday on a number of charges, including second-degree rape, second-degree sodomy, and obscene material to a child by computer and distributing material harmful to minors, Al.com reported.

Police said they began investigating Wilson after learning that a video was circulating allegedly showing her performing a solo sex act. A parent had seen the video on their child’s social media account and told the school’s principal, and at the same time two other students came forward to alert administrators about the video, WALB News reported. The investigation led police to discover that Wilson had allegedly been having sex with a student over the span of at least six months, including some trysts on school grounds.

Local officials noted that Charlaina Wilson is not the first local teacher to be arrested for having sex with a student, but that her case was the most troubling.

“Unfortunately, this is starting not to be a rare occurrence around here. This is one of the worst violations of the public trust when a teacher has sex with a student,” said district attorney Michael Jackson (via the Selma Times Journal).

Wilson is an agriculture teacher at the school, Al.com noted. She has worked there since January 2016.

The arrest of Charlaina Lee Wilson comes at the same time as a number of other high-profile teacher arrests. In Houston, 30-year-old Drew Dillon Watson was arrested on charges that he traveled across state lines to have sex with a 15-year-old boy he had been talking with via text message and video chat, ABC 7 reported.

The relationship reportedly started in April and quick progressed from there, the report noted.

“In May, the words turned to action. The complaint said Watson flew from Houston to Chicago to meet the boy for sex. The teen got as far as Watson’s car, according to the complaint, when the teen’s mother saw what was happening and stopped it.”

Watson was arrested and charged with coercion and enticement along with a charge of transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. He could face up to life in federal prison if convicted, the report noted.

His school issued a statement shortly after the arrest noting that Watson had been fired.

“The safety of our students and staff is a top priority at YES Prep Public Schools. As such, every employee at YES Prep must pass the state required background check before beginning their employment. It is unfortunate to learn some information about Mr. Watson’s recent deplorable and illegal actions. In the best interest of the campus and the entire YES Prep community, his employment with YES Prep has been terminated effective immediately. We will continue to cooperate with the authorities to support the investigation.”

After she was charged with having sex with a student, Charlaina Wilson resigned from her teaching position and she was taken off school grounds, noted Selma City Schools Superintendent Angela Mangum.

“Once the incident was reported, swift and immediate action was taken to remove the teacher from the school to ensure the safety of students,” Mangum said. “As the superintendent, it is my responsibility to protect all students from harm. I will not tolerate any misconduct towards students, and I will promptly act in their defense.”

Charlaina Lee Wilson remained in jail this weekend on charges of having sex with her student. She is being held on $1 million bond, police said.
