NFL Rumors: New York Giants, Will Beatty Decide To Reunite

In the NFL, you sometimes can go home again. According to NBC Sports, the New York Giants are signing Will Beatty and bringing him back into the mix. The veteran offensive lineman was released back in February. Since he was unable to secure a contract elsewhere, Beatty decided to go back home.

Last season was a lost one for Will Beatty, as he was forced to the sidelines by an assortment of injuries. In addition to a torn pectoral muscle, the 31-year-old also had issues with his rotator cuff. Beatty met with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers for tryouts, but contracts were not signed.

Will Beatty spent four years as the starting left tackle for the New York Giants. The team is not expecting him to regain that spot because Ereck Flowers is locked in at that position. The Giants spent a ninth overall pick in the NFL Draft on Flowers, so they want to get as much back on their investment as possible.

Marshall Newhouse is currently penciled in as the starting right tackle. Will Beatty has a very good chance of beating out Newhouse for the job, but it might not take place until the regular season starts. Newhouse has the advantage of learning under new head coach Ben McAdoo.

Will Beatty signed a contract with the New York Giants that guarantees him approximately $1.1. million. That means that he has a very good chance of taking one of the roster spots. Management is also offering Beatty another $750,000 in incentives that are mostly based on playing time.

Back in 2012, Will Beatty was such a dominant force on the offensive line that the New York Giants felt comfortable with handing him a contract that’s worth approximately $6.6 million a season. Once injuries started kicking in, the Giants decided to release Beatty because he became a salary cap casualty.

Marshall Newhouse was initially signed by the New York Giants to be the backup at left tackle and right tackle. Once Will Beatty can work himself back into shape and reclaim the starting position, the Giants will more than likely be quick to put Newhouse back to his original role.

Ben McAdoo did not address the return of Will Beatty when he last spoke with the media. That has led some to wonder if the former Connecticut Huskies star is going to be on the field when the New York Giants play the New England Patriots during their fourth and final preseason game in a few days.

The New York Giants offense has struggled mightily during the preseason. Many believe it is because the offensive line simply has not been able to hold their ground against opposing defenses. Eli Manning and Ryan Nassib have already been sacked eight times. That cannot happen during the regular season.

When it comes to having the freedom to make changes on offense, very few quarterbacks in the NFL are given as much confidence from their coaching staff as Eli Manning. The veteran quarterback is going to need to call out a lot of adjustments when the regular season starts to help alleviate the issues with the offensive line.

The NFC East was a wide open division before preseason started. It has become even more so now that Dallas Cowboys franchise quarterback Tony Romo has suffered a broken bone in his back. He is slated to miss much of the season, so the New York Giants need to capitalize on that.

Will Beatty thought his time with the New York Giants was over and done with. Now, he is being tasked with rescuing the offensive line.
