‘Destiny’ Trials Of Osiris Takes A Break In September, PS3 And Xbox 360 Cut Off After This Weekend

Destiny players on PS4 and Xbox One only have a couple of more weeks of Trials of Osiris left before Bungie gives the weekly competitive multiplayer mode a short break leading into the release of the Rise of Iron expansion. Meanwhile, PS3 and Xbox 360 players can start saying goodbye this weekend. This is all part of the game’s embracing the current-gen consoles fully while leaving the legacy consoles behind.

The Trials of Osiris event scheduled for Friday, August 26, through the Weekly Reset on the morning of Tuesday, August 30, will be the last for PS3 and Xbox 360. The Destiny activity will no longer be available on last-gen consoles. It joins a growing list of activities, per Bungie’s website, that will no longer be available including Iron Banner, Live Events, and the ability to purchase Exotic Armor and Weapons from Xûr, Agent of the Nine.

Those that own Destiny on the PS4 and Xbox One will have the event starting Friday, August 26, and the one starting September 2 to try and get to the Lighthouse before Rise of Iron is released. Trials of Osiris will not be available for the weekends of September 9, September 16, and September 23. The $30 expansion launches Tuesday, September 20, and players will actually need to wait until the last day of the month to try out the newest iteration of the multiplayer activity.

It’s important to note that PS4 and Xbox One owners will need to upgrade to Rise of Iron to take part in all the usual Destiny activities once the expansion releases. Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, etc. will not be available to those who only have The Taken King.

Naturally, Bungie is encouraging last-gen console owners to upgrade to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. The developer recently announced Destiny – The Collection. This bundle contains the original game plus all the add-ons released so far: The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King.

Those purchasing Destiny – The Collection will need to pay a $60 retail price. Meanwhile, Bungie laid out an upgrade path on the official site. PS3 and Xbox 360 owners who have purchased Destiny content up through The Taken King can purchase The Collection from the Xbox Store or PlayStation Store for $40 via their current-gen console and will receive the Rise of Iron expansion when it becomes available.

Pre-ordering Destiny – The Collection will also make players eligible for all the Rise of Iron pre-order bonus items. This includes the Iron Gjallarhorn and the Iron Gjallarwing Sparrow that were previously announced. Those who do not pre-order can still receive the white-and-gold Destiny Year Three version of the Gjallarhorn by completing an in-game quest. Meanwhile, a white-and-gold Gjallarwing will be available for purchase via a micro-transaction through the Eververse Trading Company.

Current-gen console players still have a little more time to complete their Moments of Triumph. However, it’s important to note that certain activities like collecting Calcified Fragments from the Court of Oryx are even more limited due to the rotation of bosses. Additionally, completing the Exotic Sword quest does require waiting on the Weaponsmith to appear on Wednesday, so players who need to complete that quest will want to jump on it now.

The ability to earn Moments of Triumph on the PS3 and Xbox 360 was unfortunately lost recently when Bungie separated accounts between console generations and stopped sharing progress.

As previously covered, Destiny: Rise of Iron will contain one new Strike called “The Wretched King” along with a remixed version of the “Devil’s Lair” Strike. “Wrath of the Machine” is the new Raid and will keep players mobile with new encounters when it goes live on September 23. Players should also expect a new campaign, new quests, new weapons and armor, four new Crucible maps, the new Supremacy Crucible game mode, and a Light level cap that tops off at 400.
