‘The Smurfs 2’ Unveils New Teaser Poster, First Look At The Naughties

Like it or not, director Raja Gosnell’s The Smurfs 2 is headed to the big screen next summer. In order to get you and your screaming children excited about the upcoming live action/CGI hybrid, Sony Pictures Animation has released a new teaser poster for the sequel via the fine folks at Moviefone. You’ll find the poster embedded beneath this article.

Enraged that someone would waste oodles of time and money to craft The Smurfs 2? Feel free to blame the movie-going public for its existence. According to Box Office Mojo, the first installment of the Smurfs franchise made over $560 million at the worldwide box office. Since that’s a lot of smurfing money, executives were quick to give the proverbial green light to the sequel.

Internet Movie Database describes the plot as follows:

“The Smurfs team up with their human friends to rescue Smurfette, who has been kidnapped by Gargamel since she knows a secret spell that can turn the evil sorcerer’s newest creation – creatures called the Naughties – into real Smurfs.”

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Raja Gosnell discussed the newest additions to the Smurfs universe. “They’re not bad, they’re misguided. They’re just products of their upbringing. And they haven’t had the best upbringing, let’s say,” he explained. “Vexy is smart, and mischievous and has lots of attitude. Attitude to spare. And she really does want to please her father (Gargamel). Hackus, he’s just very funny and very physical. He’s the Tasmanian Devil meets a lovable puppy dog.”

The Smurfs 2, which stars such notable talent as Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, Brendan Gleeson, Katy Perry, Jonathan Winters, Alan Cumming, Fred Armisen, Christina Ricci, George Lopez, Anton Yelchin, and John Oliver, opens in the United States on July 21, 2013. You can find the new poster and the first shot of the Naughties embedded below.
