Nancy Pelosi, the House Minority leader, complained Saturday that she’s been receiving multiple “obscene and sick calls” after her personal contact information was leaked. A hacker apparently was able to break in and steal information from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). The information includes such listings as personal contact information and other personal information on all of the Democrats in the House. Their top aides’ information was also listed. The obscene and sick messages received by Nancy Pelosi were in the form of phone calls, emails, and text messages. She sent a letter to her colleagues warning them to prevent their families and children from checking the messages, likely to avoid them hearing the vulgar obscenities she says the phone call messages included. According to a report in the Washington Times, at the time the news of the DCCC hack was released, Mrs. Pelosi was on a flight back to her home state, California.
“On a personal note, I was in the air flying from Florida to California when the news broke. Upon landing, I have received scores of mostly obscene and sick phone calls, voicemails, and text messages. Please be careful not to allow your children or family members to answer your phone or read incoming text messages. This morning, I am changing my phone number and I advise you to do so as well. “
Nancy Pelosi suggested other House Democrats to do the same in order to prevent the same thing happening to them. She indicated that she believes the hack originated in Russia, and that the Democratic Party in particular is being targeted. The case is being investigated thoroughly. Capitol Police and the House sergeant-at-arms are checking into finding out just how vulnerable this hack leaves them. Guccifer 2.0, a recently well-known hacker, has claimed responsibility for the hack and says he uploaded the contact information online. House officials claim that there was contact information of a few Republicans in the mix, but that primarily it was Democratic members who were exposed. The leak was said to have included the private cell phone numbers and email addresses of approximately 200 current and former congressional Democrats. Home addresses and spouses’ names were also included in the information that was hacked. Some social media users tweeted their feelings about the matter.

It is not known yet if any sick or obscene messages have been received by any other Democrat officials. In a report from CNN, their personal information was published to a WordPress blog, and also included log-in materials for subscriptions the DCCC uses. There was a phone call scheduled for Saturday evening for members to discuss the situation with the House sergeant-at-arms office, and cyber-security experts who were hired by the Democratic members have been investigating the hack and subsequent leak.
The personal information that was leaked was part of a massive computer-content dump on Friday. It’s only another incident in recent cyber-leaks that have affected Democratic Party organizations. Even the Democratic National Committee was affected. Fox News says Nancy Pelosi is convinced it’s part of a Russian cyber-attack she refers to as “an electronic Watergate break-in.”
The Inquisitr previously reported on similar cyber-hacking events of the Clinton campaign and Democratic Party at the end of July. Wikileaks leaked multiple emails implicating Debbie Wasserman Schultz in the DNC’s efforts to intentionally throw Bernie Sanders aside and promote Hillary Clinton instead. The exposed emails were significant enough to lead to the resignation of Schultz from her position at the top of the Democratic National Convention.
As of now, the experts will be investigating the hacking and subsequent leak and hopes to be able to prevent this from happening again. Nancy Pelosi remains determined to avoid any further obscene and sick messages in the future.
