Tom Hiddleston Responds To Robert Downey, Jr.’s Taylor Swift Joke, But Doesn’t Mention His Girlfriend

Tom Hiddleston was forced to respond to Robert Downey, Jr.’s Instagram joke about his Taylor Swift tank top during a recent interview, but the Kong: Skull Island star was careful not to mention his girlfriend’s name when the topic came up.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Hiddleston joined Instagram on Tuesday, and his first order of business was not following Taylor Swift, Robert Downey, Jr., or anyone else. Instead, the actor let his fans know that Loki is back in action by sharing a photo of himself dressed up like his Thor: Ragnarok character.

Tom Hiddleston still isn’t following his girlfriend’s Instagram account, but Robert Downey, Jr. reminded the world that his Avengers co-star is Taylor Swift’s biggest fan by sharing a photo of Hiddleston wearing his infamous “I heart T.S.” tank top. Tom rocked the shirt during Taylor’s big Fourth of July bash last month, and it sent some of his fans into meltdown mode. However, Downey, Jr. let Hiddleston fangirls know that Swift isn’t who they should be worried about. According to the jokester, the “T.S.” on Tom’s shirt actually stands for “Tony Stark.”

“Join me in welcoming the biggest T. Stark fan of them all to Instagram!” Downey, Jr. captioned the picture of Hiddleston’s “I heart T.S.” shirt.

During a live Facebook Q&A with the Los Angeles Times, Hiddleston was asked to share his feelings about Robert Downey, Jr. and his Instagram post. However, the interviewer was careful to avoid mentioning the Taylor Swift shirt in Downey, Jr.’s photo.

“I don’t mean to ask a really personal question, but can you talk to me about the Robert Downey, Jr. relationship?” she asked, as reported by the Mirror.

“Robert and I are very close and I got to know him working on the Avengers in 2011. There’s a lot of mutual affection,” Hiddleston responded.

“He had something to say with your Instagram arrival…” the interviewer went on, trying to lead the actor into talking about the Taylor Swift shirt.

However, Hiddleston wasn’t going there. He got noticeably uncomfortable, but he politely answered the question without mentioning Swift.

“I feel like it’s an expression of mutual admiration. It’s great. He’s very sweet,” Hiddleston said of his co-star. “And within the Marvel universe there’s a lot of that going on — a lot of throwing paper airplanes.”

Downey, Jr. recently proved just how sweet he is by using a tank top to profess his love for Hiddleston’s Avengers character.

Fans of Taylor Swift will be disappointed that Tom Hiddleston’s Q&A didn’t include a question about why he isn’t following his girlfriend on Instagram. There’s speculation that this is a sign that “Hiddleswift” is over, and it’s not the only reason fans of the couple are concerned; Tom and Taylor haven’t been seen together for almost two weeks. As Lainey Gossip reports, Hiddleston is currently in Los Angeles doing Emmy campaigning for his role in the Night Manager, and Swift is on the other side of the country in New York.

Fans might be worried about Hiddleswift, but the Sun insists that the couple is doing just fine; Tom has just been too busy filming Thor:Ragnarok and trying to win an Emmy to spend time with Taylor.

“Tom and Taylor are 100 percent still an item. They are both focusing on work at the moment but will be back in each other’s company again soon,” a source revealed.

An insider also told E! News that what Tom and Taylor have isn’t just a fling; it’s the real thing.

“Taylor and Tom are in love with each other. He told her she is the kind of woman he wants to spend his life with.”

Hollywood Life claims that Tom Hiddleston has asked Taylor Swift to be his date for the Emmy Awards, so stay tuned to find out if the couple makes their big red carpet debut at the show on September 18.
