You can now add Jake Gyllenhaal’s name to the list of people who are rumored to be in the running to portray Christian Grey in the cinematic adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. According to The Huffington Post, the news was brought to the End of Watch star’s attention during a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest. The actor was understandably shocked by the revelation, though he seemed flattered by the rumor.

“Yeah, of course! I always want to work, man, of course,” Jake Gyllenhaal explained. “That’s super flattering. I mean, I have not heard that, but if that’s true then that’s a nice thing. It’s always nice to be considered.”

According to Channel 24, Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James has refused to reveal who she would like to see tackle the role of Christian Grey in the upcoming adaptation. Even if Jake Gyllenhaal is her first choice for the part, she isn’t saying anything to the media about it.

Although Jake Gyllenhaal is flattered about the Fifty Shades of Grey rumors, he should be extremely happy that his recently-released police drama End of Watch has tied for the top spot of the North American box office. Box Office Mojo reports that the film, which co-stars Michael Pena and Anna Kendrick, made the same amount of cash as the Jennifer Lawrence thriller The House at the End of the Street. However, when the precise totals are revealed later this week, End of Watch could rise to the top.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s preparation for the role in the aforementioned cop thriller included a ride along with the Inglewood Police Department, an experience which featured a visit to the scene of a murder. “This was a moment where I think you recognize the absurdity of your own job in light of the situation that you’re seeing. I thought to myself, ‘What am I doing here, why am I here?’ Then I realized we’re trying to make a movie that’s authentic. It was no joke to any of us, and that made it no joke to me,” he said to US Weekly of the experience.

Do you think Jake Gyllenhaal would be a good choice to portray Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey?
