Melania Trump: Is The Wife Of The ‘Border Wall’ Candidate An Illegal Immigrant? [Video]

Melania Trump, the immigrant wife of reality TV star-turned GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, is facing some fresh public scrutiny today. Less than a week after controversial and revealing nude photos of the former model were published in the New York Post, Melania Trump is facing some tough questions regarding her immigration to the United States.

According to a Politico report, the nude pics of Melania Trump are raising questions about the accuracy of her biography, specifically regarding when she first immigrated to the United States and whether or not she was employed legally when she first got to this country.

This isn’t the first time Melania Trump’s official bio has been called into question. Just recently, her personal and professional website was taken offline following questions regarding the accuracy of her claims that she is a college graduate. Melania Trump has publicly claimed to have a degree, while unauthorized biographers have said that she only attended a year of college before dropping out to model. The Trump campaign has denied that her website was removed due to factual inaccuracies, rather claiming that it was taken down to be updated.

The current scandal plaguing Melania Trump could cause her more than a little public embarrassment, though. If it is discovered that the former model was working in the U.S. illegally when she first came to this country, it could potentially call into question the legality of her eventual green card and even her U.S. citizenship.

Donald Trump has repeatedly said that his Slovenian-born wife immigrated to the U.S. legally, and she followed all appropriate legal channels. However, the release of her old (nude) modeling pictures calls that story into question, particularly when coupled with Melania Trump’s own words.

Fortunately for Donald Trump, his voter base largely doesn’t care about immigration legality so long as the immigrant in question is white.

Melania has publicly claimed to have originally immigrated to the United States using a short-term visa. A visa of that nature would not have given the former model and current aspiring U.S. First Lady the legal right to work in the United States back in the mid-1990s when the now-infamous naked photos were taken.

Another inconsistency in the Melania Trump immigration story is the timing. According to Trump, she originally came to New York in 1996. The problem with that version of events is that the photographs published by the New York Post were allegedly taken in the U.S. in 1995.

So far, neither Donald Trump nor the Trump campaign has been willing to comment on specific details regarding the questions surrounding the legality of Melania Trump’s immigration to the U.S. However, a spokeswoman for the Donald Trump campaign has given a canned response to media queries.

“Melania followed all applicable laws and is now a proud citizen of the United States.”

The problem with that statement is that if Melania Trump lied or bent the truth on her immigration application documents, it could potentially call into question the legality of her residency in the United States even today.

“If Melania was traveling to the U.S. on a B-1 business visa, there is a potential problem. She would not have been authorized to work in the U.S. while on a B-1 visa.”

In a nutshell, if Melania was untruthful during her personal immigration process, it is possible that she is currently in the country illegally due to fraud. Even if she is legally married to a U.S. citizen and presidential candidate.

While Donald Trump and his campaign have remained uncharacteristically tight-lipped regarding the Melania Trump immigration controversy, Melania has taken to Twitter to defend herself against allegations that she didn’t follow the rules and might be the illegal immigrant wife of a presidential candidate who has sworn to build a wall along the U.S. southern border to keep illegal immigrants out of the country.

While Melania Trump is defending herself on social media, her claims aren’t enough to placate many people who have questions about the legality of her immigration status. She could presumably put the matter to rest if she so chose, however.

As Mother Jones reports, Melania Trump could silence all of the naysayers immediately if she would just release her immigration records. Her official immigration paperwork would demonstrate to those with questions about her legal status exactly what kind of visa she used to enter the United States, when she got it, and if she followed all of the proper legal channels when she relocated to and worked in the United States.

In fact, TPM is reporting that an anti-Donald Trump group is demanding that Melania Trump does precisely that. Reportedly, the political action group, the Democratic Coalition Against Trump, said on August 4 that it is demanding any and all documents that outline “the type of visa applied for or issued to Melania Trump from January 1, 1995 until she received her green card in 2001.”

“How ironic would it be if Mr. Trump, who has largely based his presidential run on his ridiculously extreme proposals related to illegal immigration, had actually married an illegal immigrant. That would just go to show that Mr. Trump has been and always will be one thing: a hypocrite.”

Donald Trump has used anti-immigration rhetoric as the cornerstone of his presidential campaign pretty much since day one. He has promised to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico and “make Mexico pay for it.” He has called out an American-born judge with Hispanic roots as being incapable of providing him with a fair trial. He has said that he would put an end to or severely curtail Muslim immigration to the U.S.

This despite being married to Melania Trump, a known immigrant. Because of her husband’s political vitriol against immigrants, anti-Trump critics have taken a hard line stance following the news that Melania Trump may have immigrated illegally.
