Shannen Doherty Says She Is ‘Going To Be Dead In Five Years’ [Video]

Former Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed star Shannen Doherty has been battling breast cancer since March, 2015. The 45-year-old actress recently revealed to the world that her treatment isn’t going as well as she had hoped and that her breast cancer has now spread. Shannen Doherty now faces an uphill struggle to survive the devastating disease, and she has become a vocal spokesperson for breast cancer sufferers.

Doherty recently told the world about her husband’s, Kurt Iswarienko’s, emotional reaction to her prognosis and how the pair plans to make the most of every moment she has left. Shannen Doherty says she now realizes that her future isn’t guaranteed, reports Fox News.

During an interview, Doherty revealed the conversation she had with her spouse when she told him the almost incomprehensible and devastating news that she was suffering from breast cancer.

“I told him, ‘You need to enjoy every single second you have with me because I’m going to be dead in five years,’ and he just burst out in tears.”

According to Doherty, she chose a fairly impersonal communication medium to tell her husband about her diagnosis, something that she now regrets and calls “horrible.” According to the cancer-stricken actress, she broke the news to her husband over the phone.

However, Shannen Doherty says that she, too, received the news that she was and is fighting for her life over the phone. She told Entertainment Tonight that she got the call from her doctor’s office while riding in the car with her mother and that she had originally planned to tell her husband the devastating news in person, but she simply couldn’t wait.

“I’m going to wait until I see him,’ and I just couldn’t. So I picked up the phone and I called him and he was like, ‘Where are you?'”

Shannen says that, despite the challenges of living with and fighting cancer, the diagnosis has actually made her marriage of five years stronger. Much, much stronger, actually. During her ET interview, Shannen Doherty told the world that even though she opted to make the “horrible” choice of breaking her cancer news to her hubby over the phone, he was waiting outside their home to hug her when she got there.

In addition to giving his wife a much-needed hug following her cancer diagnosis, Shannen Doherty’s husband immediately reassured her of her strength and the strength of their relationship, too. He told his wife that they would “get through this” and that she was “going to be okay.”

The pair’s faced the relationship-affirming news of Shannen Doherty’s cancer diagnosis over a year ago. In the time since, Shannen has faced difficult cancer treatments and emotionally compromising life choices. As a Hollywood actress, Shannen Doherty has long banked on her beauty, including her iconic long brunette hair. At the end of July, the star made the difficult decision to shave her head in the midst of her cancer treatments.

As the Sun reports, Shannen Doherty documented the emotional journey of buzzing off her long hair and shared the photographs on Instagram. The photographs of her emotional haircut began with an embrace from her mom.

The Instagram pics ended with a photo of the newly-bald and empowered Shannen Doherty bravely sharing her new look with the world.

Shannen knows that she is still facing a battle for her very life, and she credits the loving support of her husband for helping her through what she’s already endured. According to Shannen Doherty, her marriage is now “a thousand times stronger” than it was before her cancer diagnosis.

“My marriage was always strong, but it’s made my marriage a thousand times stronger. I could not have gotten through this without my husband.”

Despite recently announcing the devastating update that her breast cancer has spread, Shannen Doherty is counting on the love and support of her husband to carry her through the trials and tribulations ahead.
