Shannen Doherty Gives Rare Interview — ‘Charmed’ Star Fears Losing Her Life

Shannen Doherty was once a superstar in the television world. She got her claim to fame when she was cast in Aaron Spelling’s Beverly Hills 90210. Doherty played Brenda Walsh, the twin sister to Jason Priestley’s Brandon Walsh. The cast was amazing, and the show took off because it related to teenagers dealing with high school issues. After leaving the show amid rumors that she was difficult to work with, Doherty ended up on another Aaron Spelling show. Charmed was a unique series, based on three sister witches. Prue Halliwell was Doherty’s character, but she only lasted a few seasons there as well. A lot has changed since those days, and not for the better.

Last August, Shannen Doherty announced she was battling breast cancer. The diagnosis had come in February of 2015, but the actress chose not to go public with it until she was ready. Since then, Doherty has been leaning on close friends and family for support. Fans have reached out to her to show their support as well. According to Us Weekly, Shannen Doherty is afraid she will lose her battle. She opened up in a rare interview on Thursday, saying she “doesn’t look past today,” Shannen knows that her disease is unpredictable. She remains a fighter and plans to come out the other end swinging, but death is still a possibility and she is well aware of that.

In a recent Instagram photo session, Shannen Doherty documented the process of shaving her head. She is going through chemotherapy and decided to shave her head rather than slowly lose her mane. It is something that women have a hard time with, parting with something that defines who they are as a woman. Doherty seemed to be handling the event well, sharing the moment with fans. Critics have been attacking the Charmed actress and her need for the attention. While it is true Doherty has been documenting a lot of her journey since going public, she is hoping to help others who are in the same shoes. Dealing with breast cancer is something that touches many people across the world, and by seeing the reality of what happens through Doherty, people may have a better understanding.

Despite the bad press Shannen Doherty got when she was in the acting world, several of her co-stars have come to her aide. Jason Priestly spoke out about his former co-star and friend, telling everyone that Doherty is a fighter and will beat this. After an ongoing feud with Alyssa Milano after leaving Charmed, it was unclear how the actress would respond to learning about Doherty’s battle. Immediately, she stood up and supported her and remains in her corner to this day. Doherty and Holly Marie Combs have remained close since their work on Charmed, and they often spend a lot of time together. Both are heavily into animal rights and being activists, which is likely why they are so close to this day.

There was some talk about a Charmed reboot happening but with everything Shannen Doherty is going through, she will likely not be a part of the fun. Her focus right now is completing chemotherapy and beating the cancer that has plagued her body. Fans and her close friends are remaining hopeful that she will be able to make a full recovery and return to a semi-normal life. After everything that has happened over the years, Doherty has remained grateful for what she has been given through working on various television shows. The next few months will be trying but Shannen Doherty is strong and feisty enough to get through whatever breast cancer throws her way.
