Comic-Con International 2016: From ‘Doctor Strange’ To ‘Suicide Squad’ – The Top Movie Panels Coming To San Diego

The ultimate geek extravaganza, more commonly known as the San Diego Comic-Con International, is quickly approaching with dates running from July 21 through July 24.

The 300 or so people that attended the small unknown event back in the early 70s couldn’t have possibly dreamed that where they stood would someday become one of the largest pop-cultural events of the year. And the movie line-up for this year continues the trend and promises to bring plenty of buzz to the entertainment industry.

According to MStars News, Marvel Studios previously announced it would be attending the event and its top superhero contender, Warner Bros., has also released their line-up for this year’s Comic-Con.

From DC’s Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad to returning to the wonderful world of Harry Potter in the franchise’s first spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, all are getting time at the event.

The Suicide Squad panel will consist of the biggest names in the film, including the new Joker, Jared Leto; Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn; and Deadshot, Will Smith. The panel will also have Cara Delevingne, Scott Eastwood, and writer-director David Ayer, among others.

As for Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot will be there along with Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, and Patty Jenkins, the director of the upcoming Amazon-centered film. The other DC showing will include The Lego Batman Movie and the animated film Batman: The Killing Joke.

On the non-DC side of things, Warner Bros. also has Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and John Goodman showing up to talk about Kong: Skull Island. In addition to that, new info will be shared about Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, which stars Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam.

Last, but certainly not least, is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Several of the actors will be on hand in the film’s panel to tease Harry Potter fans. They include Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell, and director David Yates.

Marvel Studios was absent during the 2015 Comic-Con claiming there wasn’t anything new to tease fans. But this year is different, and it returns with a compelling line-up.

Two of the biggest reveals for Marvel include Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, reveals Hollywood Reporter. Of course, Marvel could surprise fans with a glimpse of Spiderman: Homecoming or Thor: Ragnarok, both of which are currently in production.

The studio also has a screenwriting Q&A for Captain America: Civil War for any fans who are curious about characters such as Spider-Man and Black Panther.

Other notable panels will include DreamWorks animated film Trolls based off the weird, bug-eyed dolls that reached its peak of popularity during the 80s. Appearing for the promotion of Trolls will be Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick.

Rolling Stone also reports that Oliver Stone’s September film Snowden, with supporting cast Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, and Star Trek’s Zachary Quinto, is scheduled to be on hand at the convention.

Fans are also hopeful that they will get a sneak peek at Alien: Covenant.

It’s been nearly 30 years since James Cameron’s Alien was first introduced to the world and fans are hoping director Ridley Scott has enough footage done to give them a glimpse into the seventh installment of the franchise.

Sony is also making a showing with the animated food film Sausage Party. Along with the screening of the food-centric R-rated cartoon, a chat is also planned with producers and longtime nerd fans Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

So fans, tells us what you think about the upcoming slate for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Which one do you think is the most anticipated of the lot? Comment below!
