How Rita Ora Got Involved In Taylor Swift And Calvin Harris’ Drama

Rita Ora hasn’t publicly addressed the Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift’s split, but she has somehow found herself in the middle of their feud. Just last week, Calvin Harris went on a Twitter rant after Taylor Swift’s team confirmed to People that she wrote his hit new single “This Is What You Came For” featuring Rihanna.

Of course, the song is a smash hit and is on its way to becoming the Song of the Summer. Back in April, Harris, 32, made an appearance on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show saying that he and Swift, 26, never spoke about making music together because she’s on an extended hiatus from making music. Apparently, it never came up in conversation when she was riding high off the success of her 1989 album and supporting tour. Harris also said that he could never see himself working with the singer. Swift was reportedly hurt by what he said in the interview and also didn’t like that he didn’t attend red carpet events, like the Grammy Awards, with her.

According to TMZ, Swift allegedly wrote the song while they were still dating. Then, she provided the melody and recorded it on her iPhone. She played the song to Harris, who ended up loving it and played the demo to Rihanna at Coachella, but agreed to keep Swift’s identity a secret. Now, Harris has since confirmed that Swift was a part of the song, but clarified that he wrote the music, produced the song, and arranged and cut the vocals.

He explained that Swift wanted to keep it a secret, so there wasn’t so much news surrounding it, which is why the pseudonym, Nils Sjoberg, was used. Harris then said that Swift and her team went out of their way to drag him into the press shortly after their split.

But Swift is not the only one he’s had a messy collaboration with. Before dating the pop superstar, Harris dated Rita Ora, which also led to a messy breakup. According to UsWeekly, Ora’s second album was delayed because Harris banned the singer from performing the tracks they worked on together during their relationship. Their feud ignited when the British singer couldn’t perform their hit song “I Will Never Let You Down” at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards.

“There was a reason why I split up with him,” Ora revealed in the July 2015 issue of Marie Claire. “And there was a reason why I’m at this point in my life where I feel like I have so much musical freedom, and I don’t have to explain myself to anybody. … It was more of a thing where I was in awe. I was at that point in my relationship where I felt he could do no wrong. I thought he had my back and that he’d never steer me wrong.”

Ora explained in the raw and candid interview that shortly after their song dropped in March 2014, their relationship starting to fall apart.

“Everything started to go a bit weird. I don’t know if it was because business was mixed with personal or what.”

The former X Factor U.K. host has been dealing with other issues in the music industry. Earlier this year, Jay Z’s music label, Roc Nation, sued Ora for breaking her contract and failing not to release the albums she was meant to. But she fired back with claims of neglect and finally reached a court settlement on June 16, according to Music-News.com. Ora is now signed to Atlantic Records and is currently working on her next album as she currently films Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. She reportedly told Britain’s Metro newspaper that she couldn’t wait to start writing and recording music once again.

“You’re thinking, ‘Is it worth it?’ It becomes so heavy at times. F***, of course it’s worth it, this is all I’ve ever wanted to do.”

Even with some setbacks, Ora has been determined to make a comeback in the music world. She took a break from music to focus on her acting career. Since then, Ora has been gaining recognition for her role of Mia Grey, Christian’s Grey little sister in the Fifty Shades franchise.
