‘Pokémon GO’ Engagement Rings Actually Exist Now, But You Only Gotta Catch One

Pokémon GO has taken the world by storm, delighting kids and adults alike, motivating entire families to get out and move, to play together and explore. Riffing on the ’90s kids nostalgia, today’s version is obviously much more tech-driven than the RPG game of yore, and the new version of Pokémon GO is inspiring a whole new generation of people to get out and “catch ’em all.”

And now, apparently, the game is inspiring jewelers, as well.

U-Treasure by K. UNO, a Japanese jeweler, is cashing in on the Pokémon GO craze with their Pocket Monsters’ collection. The Pocket Monsters’ collection includes seven distinct pieces, from engagement rings to wedding bands, Brit + Co reports.

There’s even a necklace to top off your wedding day look — if, of course, you are going for a Pokémon GO-themed wedding, that is.

If your guests are going to get a Pikachu, you might as well give them something to look at.

U-Treasure by K. UNO offers a variety of “his and hers” engagement ring options, and although it’s obviously not for everyone, even the most hardened traditionalist will think the pieces are pretty adorable. The jeweler managed to capture the warmth and fuzziness of the characters, even when rendered in cold, hard gold.

And if you are going to say “I do,” nothing says forever like a Jolteon. Or a snorlax. Or a Haunter. Diamonds are boring — unless those diamonds are flanked by a Pokémon on your engagement ring.

However, the engagement rings and wedding bands from the Pocket Monsters’ collection may look a little juvenile, but it is definitely not for kids. And they are certainly priced for adults. With both a silver option and an 18-karat yellow gold option for the engagement rings, the jewelry starts at an estimated 99,000 yen, which is a little under $1,000 USD. The more intricate, detailed jewelry options cost more.

And, if you are among the first 400 customers who truly believe that your fiancé would prefer a Pokémon GO-themed engagement ring and wedding band, as opposed to something a little less, well, animated, then order now, because the first 400 Pokémon engagement rings will be enclosed in an exclusive Poké Ball gift case. Because what else could a ring like this possibly come in?

Of course. [Image via U-Treasure by K. UNO]

Survey Monkey just reported that Pokémon GO is now the biggest mobile game in U.S. history, shooting to the very top of the app store the day it was released. Within days of its release, Pokémon GO had more users than Twitter, and has been earning millions of dollars every day, with 26 million daily users in the United States alone. The game is so popular that it’s now in competition with SnapChat and Google Maps. Furthermore, user retention, an important part of a game’s actual success, especially after the hype wears off, has been tremendously good.

So after you propose to your significant other with a character-themed ring, and then have your anime-themed wedding, it looks like you may be able to carry that theme into your honeymoon, as Fortune reports that many cities are betting on a Pokémon GO tourism boom. Tourism departments have embraced the Pikachu craze and have started to create marketing programs centered around the game. For example, Los Angeles restaurants and hotels offered Pokemon-related giveaways and deals, while city tourism marketers had already created a Pokemon GO handy guide within days, inviting visitors to “catch ’em all.”

Of course, when it comes to a spouse, you really need to only catch the one — hopefully.

So tell us what you think. Would you, or anyone you know, actually like a Pokémon GO engagement ring or wedding band? Let us know in the comments below!
