Philadelphia, PA — Philadelphia-area police are searching for a suspected rapist who allegedly taunted his victim for hours, saying, “Ha-ha, I just gave you HIV.”
Philadelphia Police released a surveillance video of the alleged rapist, asking for the public’s help in identifying and bringing him in, reports NBC Philadelphia.
Police have said that the surveillance video shows the rapist approaching the victim; the man then began beating and raping the Frankford woman.
The victim, aged 24, dropped a friend off at a bus stop just after midnight on August 29. As she was walking back to her home, the man jumped her from behind, began to punch her, and forced her into an alley, where he repeatedly raped her. Special Victims Unit Capt. John Darby stated:
“The 24-year-old victim sustained severe head and facial injuries to the point of almost being unrecognizable.”
The suspect also choked the 24-year-old woman until the was unconscious, and may have raped her repeatedly for several hours. A neighbor spotted the bloody victim stumbling down the street several hours later and called the police. The victim was taken to the hospital and stayed there for several days before she was released.
KSDK notes that the victim was also tested for HIV, but those results were not made public. The victim did not want to appear on camera on Tuesday, but tearfully spoke with reporters, saying that she just wants justice for the brutal attack.
Investigators are working hard to capture the suspect, but were forced to release the video after their leads dried up. The victim described her rapist as a thin black man in his 20s. he has a medium complexion and short black hair. The victim placed him at around 5 foot 9 inches tall. During the attack, he was wearing a white T-shirt, dark pants, and dark shoes, according to police.
