‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’: D. Smith Confirms Her Exit From VH1 Reality Show After One Season

As Season 5 of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta winds down with their last few episodes, many fans start to wonder who will be back for more and which cast members won’t be back. We can all stop wondering if newcomer D. Smith is headed back for more LHHATL drama because she has already made it clear that she won’t be back after spending just one season on the VH1 reality show.

D. Smith was a guest on the Don’t Be Scared podcast on Thursday when she revealed that she won’t be coming back after Season 5 of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta. Smith made her debut as the first trans person to be cast in any of the Love & Hip Hop cities and also introduced her sidekick Betty Idol, who seemed never to be far from her friend.

“I barely made it through this season,” D. Smith said. “They barely got me on the first season. There was a whole month where Betty and I weren’t on there because I quit the show in the middle of the season. I don’t foresee me being on another season.”

D. Smith clashed several times and with several of her castmates during the season. She and Betty Idol took on LHHATL veteran Lil Scrappy over comments that he made about trans people on social media in a recent episode. Betty was invited to see Scrappy perform and took D. Smith along with her to see how Scrappy might react. That storyline ended up fizzling out before any real explosions because Scrappy ended up proposing to Bambi which stopped any more romantic dealings between Scrappy and Betty.

The duo also turned their wrath on Waka Flocka for his views that they didn’t agree with. Things got really ugly between D. Smith, Betty Idol, and Tammy Rivera when the newcomers decided to gang up on Tammy about comments that her husband had made.

Deb Antney also got involved when D. Smith and Betty Idol continued to attack Waka Flocka, and she even tried to make peace by inviting them to participate in a panel she had set up. That was a major bust when D. and Tammy ended up arguing in front of a room full of people. Now there is bad blood between Deb Antney and D. Smith, with both women throwing plenty of shade.

It wasn’t all bad for D. Smith on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta. She did get a chance to meet CeeLo Green while filming the VH1 reality show. In a meeting set up by Betty Idol, CeeLo got a chance to listen to some of D. Smith’s music. It sounds like Green was impressed, so don’t be surprised if the two music makers end up working on a project together.

“The truth of the matter is D. Smith is a producer with some accolades, some success. I’m a singer, an artist and I happen to be transgender. That’s what I wanted to portray and that’s what I wanted trans people to see. The overkill with trans, trans, trans and LGBT. What’s the big deal? Everyone in this world has a gay or trans friend, cousins, uncles, aunts. Why is it so big? I think that was definitely a concern.”

It’s unknown if D. Smith would have been asked to return to VH1 if she hadn’t announced that she was leaving. There weren’t too many LHHATL cast members left to have her and Betty Idol socialize with after they ended up sparring in every scene. There is even an upcoming segment with Ariana where D. is going to tell her that she’s not that great of a singer. From the sneak peeks and other information that is known about the scene, D. Smith has mad an enemy of Ariane too.
