Big Apple Pizza Yelp Page Becomes Lightning Rod For Political Commenter Showdown

Big Apple Pizza’s Yelp page has emerged as an unlikely political battleground in the touchy lead-up to what is, by all accounts, a seriously tight election.

If you missed it, we reported earlier on Big Apple Pizza’s Yelp page and how, after President Barack Obama dropped in unexpectedly and even more unexpectedly received a vociferous bear hug from owner and registered Republican Scott Van Duzer, haters and fans of the president from across the nation dropped in on Big Apple Pizza’s Yelp page to voice their political opinions.

Prior to President Obama’s drop in, Big Apple Pizza had but two reviews on the site, the last from nearly two years back. Now Big Apple Pizza’s Yelp has a stunning 2,069 reviews, and most, of course, are from people who have never set foot in a 100 mile radius of Big Apple Pizza.

So feverish and backbiting is the political climate in America right now that the Big Apple Pizza Yelp page has become a flame war for the ages, with mostly anti-Obama commenters from places like New York and California adding comments about the Florida pizzeria:

“Horrible food. Nothing more to say.” [California]

“Terrible pizza and service.” [California]

Went there during my summer vacation. It was nasty. Not surprised the owner is an Obama hack!! [Upstate New York]

And, you cannot make this up, from Orlando, Florida:

“I will never go to this place again. After seeing this so called Republican hug Obama, I’ve lost my appetite … I would never let Barack Hussein Obama enter my business. Of course since Chairman Obama thinks I did not build it, he would probably force his way in. This “American” president has done more damage to this country than the hijackers on 9/11. Stay out of our small businesses, Mr. President. In fact, keep your hands off our health care, guns, religion, and values … The calzones are fantastic.”

Among the negative reviews was one from Virginia, where the reviewer says on Big Apple Pizza’s Yelp page:

“Believe it or not I have been there and enjoyed the food. Not enough to write a review of a pizza place. But the fact that Republicans are trashing this guy because he was excited to meet the most powerful man in the world….seriously? Also considering they are a party of small business?!?! Wow…show your true colors why don’t you. I’m not even a die hard Dem or Obama fan, but this makes me more clear on the lesser of two evils idea. Get a grip people…..he seems like a great guys who runs a great business.”

Do you think it’s fair that Big Apple Pizza’s Yelp page has been bombarded because the owner hugged — and as far as we know didn’t even endorse or give money to — President Obama?
