‘Call of Juarez: Gunslinger’ Will Return To The Old West

Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger, the followup to Call Of Juarez: The Cartel, will abandon the previous game’s modern setting, and return to the wild days of the old West. The fourth offering in the Call Of Juarez series will be released for Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and PC in early 2013.

The change in setting was made as a result of player responses to a questionnaire sent out by the game’s publisher, Ubisoft. In the survey, gamers were asked to rate various traditional old west scenarios including stalking a wanted outlaw in the Rockies, saving an innocent man who about to be hung, stopping a bank robbery in progress, and protecting a moving train from an attack of Native Americans mounted on horseback.

Ubisoft obviously took the responses to their survey seriously, and players will be relieved to know the setting of Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger is returning to the more familiar surroundings of the untamed frontier. This will certainly please fans of the Western genre after the disappointing reaction to the modern day environment of Call Of Juarez: The Cartel.

Game-play in Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger will consist of a series of flashback encounters with notorious western outlaws. The episodes will feature some of the famous gunslingers of the era, including Pat Garrett, Billy The Kid and Jesse James. The game will be narrated by an aging gunslinger, who will regale players with tales of his exploits in the days of crooked marshals, lynchings and loose women.

The main character in the rousing first person shooter will be a hard-nosed bounty hunter who is hot on the trail of several of the west’s most dangerous fast draw killers. Publisher Ubisoft is referring to Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger as an ‘arcade FPS’, and they promise the game will introduce several new shooting skills, and even teach players how to dodge bullets.

During the game, players will be able to ride the dusty trail in pursuit of their quarry, visit sleazy saloons for a shot of the ‘Old Red Eye’ and a few hands of poker or engage in “ruthless, all out gun battles” using pistols and rifles to “unleash lethal combos” and “gun down multiple enemies in split seconds.” They will be treated to generous splashes of rich red blood, as they “develop and acquire new shooting abilities to become the West’s finest gunslinger.”
