Less than a week after Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston were spotted getting seriously close on the beach, Swift is now being accused of faking the cozy shots to distract the media from the other big story circulating around her right now.
The latest source to call out Swift over her new romance is New York Magazine‘s “The Cut,” who are now speculating that the photos, which were printed by The Sun on June 16, could have been Swift’s way of moving attention away from Kim Kardashian’s pretty scathing GQ interview, in which Kardashian insinuated Swift was a liar.
The Cut put forward a theory just days after the Taylor and Tom photos hit the web, suggesting that “Taylor Swift knew this story about her maybe lying was coming out this week. So she went to Rhode Island with her friend or boyfriend or actor she knows Tom Hiddleston.”
“And then, the night before the story broke,” The Cut continued, “roughly 4.6 billion photos of her kissing this person showed up on the internet. And now that’s the story.”
Though Taylor has yet to speak out about her and Hiddleston’s apparent new romance, or the recently surfaces photos of them kissing on the beach, this isn’t the first time Swift has been accused of leaking the cozy photos.
Cosmopolitan turned to paparazzo and creator of Stupid Famous People, Justin Steffman, to shed some light on the snaps of Swift and Hiddleston, and he claimed that he believed there’s a good chance the photo opportunity could have been staged.
“There is an unspoken deal between Swift and paparazzi, and her bodyguards make it clear,” Steffman recently told the site.
“[Taylor Swift] takes an entirely different approach to paparazzi than most celebrities do. It’s all about business for her,” he said. “My first instinct when seeing the pictures of Taylor and Tom is that they are definitely staged.”
Justin’s claims came shortly after Hollywood Life alleged that Kim Kardashian – who insinuated in the magazine that Taylor lied about not knowing the content of Kanye West’s track “Famous,” in which he raps, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that b**** famous” – was annoyed by the beach photos.
The site alleged that Kim was “thoroughly annoyed” that Taylor and Tom’s first photos as a couple leaked around the same time as her first GQ cover, on which she appears completely naked, and supposedly believes that Swift leaked the photos in an attempt to steal her thunder.
Though neither Taylor nor Kim has officially confirmed or denied the reports, Kim Kardashian notably put Swift on serious blast inside the magazine.
Speaking out about West’s track “Famous,” Kardashian alleged that Swift “totally approved” the song but then “wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t” once the song was released earlier this year.
Kim even admitted that Kanye even has footage of Swift approving the song but claimed that Taylor’s lawyers sent herself and her husband a letter to prevent them from ever leaking it.
“They sent an attorney’s letter like, ‘Don’t you dare do anything with that footage,’ and asking us to destroy it,” Kim told GQ of the Taylor footage, after which Swift’s representative issued a statement that once again denied that Swift had any knowledge of the song’s content.
“Taylor does not hold anything against Kim Kardashian as she recognizes the pressure Kim must be under and that she is only repeating what she has been told by Kanye West,” the statement from Taylor’s team read. “However, that does not change the fact that much of what Kim is saying is incorrect.”
“Kanye West never told Taylor he was going to use the term ‘that b****’ in referencing her,” the piece continued. “A song cannot be approved if it was never heard… Taylor cannot understand why Kanye West, and now Kim Kardashian, will not just leave her alone.”
