Star Wars is getting another LEGO series, and it’s more intense that people expect.
The Star Wars franchise continues to spawn various spinoffs, products, movies and TV series outside from its main plot line. This is because the millions of Star Wars fans are never quenched when it comes to new series releases or toys.
This coming Monday, another Star Wars title will be joining the long list of Star Wars-inspired spinoffs, and it will be airing on Disney XD with a special LEGO treatment. The news on the official Star Wars website reads as follows.
“The Force is set to meet LEGO bricks in a new galaxy-spanning adventure.
“StarWars.com is thrilled to announce LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, an all-new animated television series scheduled to debut this summer on Disney XD in the US. The fun-filled adventure comedy series, set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, will introduce all-new heroes and villains in exciting adventures with many familiar Star Wars characters.”
LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures follows the story of three siblings—Zander (voiced by Eugene Byrd), Cordi (Vanessa Lengies), and Rowan (Nicholas Cantu)—who are traveling the Star Wars galaxy in search of debris to turn into merchandise. The siblings then happen to run into a great find that changes their quest. The youngest, Rowan, stumbles into a part of the ancient Kyber Saber (the first lightsaber ever made) and the siblings become a target for Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader. Watch the trailer below.
IGN was able to attend a press event for LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, where they were able to sit down with showrunners Bill Motz and Bob Roth, as well as the three voice stars behind the Freemakers. What’s special about the new Star Wars LEGO series is that apart from its comedic gait, it actually goes deeper into the Jedi lore. Motz shares how excited he is, too, about LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures:
“That was very much a twist and something that Lucasfilm really wanted to do, just sort of make it feel, tonally, a little larger. Of course, we also wanted to keep the fun of the LEGO experience. But we often talk about, you know, there’s a lot of comedy in Star Wars, but there’s also these stakes. So we wanted to reflect that, that there’s a lot of comedy, but there’s also these very real stakes.
“As it progresses, the first season is almost like a film in terms of, there’s an arc that goes through it and the characters grow and those kinds of things—and it builds to a place that, we get into some areas that I think are kind of surprising and much more intense than you might expect from a LEGO Star Wars show, which I’m personally excited about. But also, it’s fun and funny, the whole way through.”
Ever since Disney bought the rights to Star Wars in 2012, almost everything they have been coming up with is considered pretty much canon. But Roth has been very specific with LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, that it is its own unique universe that compliments the Star Wars canon—sort of like a “Canon Paraphrase,” in Motz terms.

Throughout LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, we will be seeing a lot of cameos and familiar faces. In addition to Darth Vader and Palpatine, expect Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, the bounty hunter Dengar, as well as minor characters like Wedge Antilles, to pop out every now and then.
Roth confesses that the decision to include Dengar has been very personal for them.
“We put Dengar in because we love Dengar. He looks like the most slovenly, sloppy bounty hunter ever. You can totally outrun Dengar. He’s overweight. He looks like he just got out of a Three Stooges movie.”
