Although the host nation has already qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament, Switzerland will arguably present France’s most difficult opposition so far at Euro 2016. However, France only need a draw against the Swiss, knowing one point will be enough for Didier Deschamps’ men to finish at the top of their group.
West Ham’s Dmitri Payet has been the star of the tournament so far for the French, having scored two goals and created a number of opportunities for Deschamps’ side. So impressive has been Payet’s display in the tournament in the first two matches that the transfer tabloids of French media are already rife with murmurs of Real Madrid being interested in the playmaker, but Deschamps would hope Payet can put those rumors to bed when he takes the field against Switzerland on Sunday.
Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann, both of whom did not start France’s match against Albania, are expected to be restored to the starting line-up, while Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman are both certain to drop back to the bench.
“I could rotate things. All my players are available, but there are a number of different criteria to consider. I have to pick a team to make sure we secure top spot. That’s our aim.
“We should have more freedom against Switzerland due to their style of play. Playing against an ultra-defensive side is very difficult. Switzerland have a team that like to play football so it might be an open game.
“Dimitri Payet has worked very hard and he’s been rewarded. There are certain players who make a difference, but beyond the individual aspect it is the squad and their mindset that is crucial. It’s quite nice what’s happening to Payet at the moment – he deserves it.”
France and Switzerland are familiar opponents, having been drawn in the same group four times in the last seven major tournaments, and the host nation certainly hold an upper edge against the Swiss, having remained unbeaten in all those meetings.
Moreover, France will be eager to continue their winning streak which has seen them win six matches in a row, making them the only team to have won all their games in 2016, reports Sky Sports.

Euro 2016 presents a fantastic opportunity for Switzerland to progress to the knockout stages of the European Championships for the first time in their history, and coach Vladimir Petković was eager to stress that qualifying for the next stage was the only thing on his players’ minds before the game.
Petković sought to dismiss speculation that the Swiss will be out for revenge for the hammering they received at the hands of the hosts during World Cup 2014, where the French defeated Switzerland 5-2 in a pulsating match in Brazil.
“We’re not really thinking too much about our 5-2 defeat by France at the World Cup two years ago. We’re certainly not looking for revenge. We’re focusing on the present – that’s all that counts.
“We want to show France that we can play football just as well as them.
“I don’t think France are 100% calm either. They can still lose first place to us and we are going to do everything to achieve this against the favorites in our group. Maybe the favorites for the European Championship.”
The Swiss media has billed the game as a “group stage final,” and with Switzerland still needing at least a point to secure their qualification to the knockout round, France can expect a tough battle on their hands.
Switzerland could be without midfielder Valon Behrami due to a knee injury, while striker Haris Seferovic might also have to be content with a place on the bench as manager Petković looks to freshen things up.
