‘The Walking Dead’: Carol’s Transformation Shouldn’t Surprise ‘TWD’ Fans?

The Walking Dead has several fan favorite characters. One of those is Carol Peletier, portrayed by Melissa McBride. In the back half of Season 6, fans were concerned about Carol’s mental state. It seemed as if she had lost her mind. However, a new report claims that TWD fans should have seen Carol’s transformation sooner.

Warning: Possible spoilers for The Walking Dead may be ahead.

In Season 1 of The Walking Dead, Carol Peletier was a scared housewife, one who was being beaten by her husband, Ed. Even after he was mauled by zombies, Melissa McBride’s character didn’t change too much. It wasn’t until after Sophia became a walker that fans saw Carol evolve.

Naturally, it didn’t happen right away. It wasn’t until Season 3 of The Walking Dead that viewers met a very different Carol. One that was self-sufficient and relaxed, but who could also take care of a horde of walkers on her own. As time went on, she became even stronger, both mentally and physically.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, something happened in Season 6 of TWD. Suddenly, Carol claimed she could not kill anymore. Some viewers thought it was one specific incident, while others believed it was a series of events that caused the change in Carol. But was it really, or should fans have seen McBride’s character transforming sooner?

According to TV Line, fans really shouldn’t be too surprised at the change in Carol Peletier. The article states that Tobin said Carol was a mother figure to the Alexandria residents. She was able to do the things that others could not. The writer also noted that, while everyone thought she was being strong, they had no idea how doing unspeakable things was impacting the character in such a deep way.

By the Season 6 finale, viewers — and Carol — realized that she was still capable of killing and doing horrible things. It wasn’t that she couldn’t, it was that she wouldn’t unless it was her only option.

When Carol was kidnapped by Paula (Alicia Witt) and the Saviors, she escaped. When Paula caught up to Carol, the The Walking Dead character begged her to just walk away. She really didn’t want to kill another human being, but in that case, she had no choice. Paula was not walking away, and it was either Paula’s life or Carol’s.

Nobody really knows what is going to happen with Carol’s character in Season 7 of The Walking Dead. She is going to have to do something, though. Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) arrived in the season finale, and someone was bashed by Lucille. When Carol finds out what has happened, she is going to need to do something to save her friends.

As TWD fans know, Morgan (Lennie James) found Carol. She was injured, but she refused to go back with Morgan to get help. She also seemed tormented by the fact that she had to kill again. Viewers didn’t see exactly what happened, but Carol’s rosary was dropped, and there was blood everywhere. She had to do the same thing when encountering a few of the Saviors in the road. It is a different world now, and even though Carol may not want to kill, it is a necessity in the zombie apocalypse. Nothing will allow The Walking Dead character to escape that, no matter how badly she wants it to.

What do you think of Carol Peletier’s changing attitude in The Walking Dead? What are your predictions for Melissa McBride’s character in Season 7 of TWD? No premiere date has been announced yet. However, zombie fans can find what happens with Carol and the other characters when The Walking Dead returns to AMC this fall.
