NBA Rumors: New York Knicks To Acquire Derrick Rose From Chicago Bulls?

The New York Knicks are heading into a crucial offseason if the team’s management hopes to turn their franchise around. It has been a rough past few seasons since Phil Jackson took things over, but he strongly believes he can get them back on the right track. Everything will start this offseason, and the Knicks will have to be aggressive on both the free agency and trade markets.

There will be plenty of targets that the Knicks can look at this offseason on the trade market. One player, in particular, would be an intriguing pickup to say the very least.

Tom West of FanSided.com opined that Derrick Rose could be on the list of players that the Knicks look to trade for.

Rose has had issues staying healthy throughout his career since tearing his ACL for the first time. It has been an uphill battle for him, but he played in 66 games last season for the Chicago Bulls. New York would be taking a gamble on Rose, but he is the type of talent that is worth a gamble.

Throughout the course of the 2015-16 season with the Bulls, Rose ended up averaging 16.4 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game. He shot 42.7 percent from the floor overall and 29.3 percent from behind the three-point arc. Those numbers may not look amazing, but he made more of a positive impact than many were expecting when the Bulls began the season.

At 27-years-old, Rose still has plenty of time to turn his career back around. Even with the injuries that he has suffered, he can still get back to being one of the more dominant scoring point guards in the NBA. It isn’t a done deal that Rose will be dealt by the Bulls this offseason, but he is definitely a more likely trade candidate than Jimmy Butler.

New York has been in need of an upgrade at the point guard position over the past few seasons. Jose Calderon isn’t getting the job done, and Jerian Grant isn’t ready to be a starting NBA point guard. Rose would be exactly what the doctor ordered for the Knicks and could make for a great big three with Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis.

Looking ahead to the Eastern Conference next season, the Knicks could make some noise with a piece like Rose on board.

If Rose can figure out a way to get back to the pre-injury version of himself, there is nothing holding the Knicks back from being championship contenders if they acquire him. He was more than capable of scoring 30 points on any given night, and his ability to create shots for others was impressive, to say the least.

It won’t be cheap for any team to acquire Rose, but it might be worth it. He is on a one-year deal, which would allow the team that acquired him to cut ties immediately following next season.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding the Knicks as the offseason continues to draw closer and get underway. They have some money to spend and assets to make a trade, and Rose certainly seems to be available. If they are serious about upgrading the point guard position, Jackson needs to place a call to the Bulls.

While some may not think it’s worth acquiring Rose, there is no denying the talent that he possesses. He was one of the most entertaining players to watch throughout the early stages of his career in Chicago and is an MVP winner. New York would be a great landing spot for Rose and perhaps a change of scenery would do him good.
